Position Overview

The Manager, Data Engineer will be responsible for the technical delivery of IT related data projects and leading them toward successful completion while providing technical leadership, experience, rigor, and consistency across the enterprise.

This is a hands-on role that requires close collaboration with all levels of Exact Sciences to drive the development of scalable, efficient, and secure data infrastructure that supports business goals and enables data-driven decision-making.  This holder of the role will be responsible for the management of solution implementation with the help of service providers and other vendors that are required for integration with external and internal systems.

This role requires an experienced and credible practitioner of data engineering, capable of delivering and continuously improving technical delivery capabilities while driving healthy change across the IT function with the continued engagement of their team, key stakeholders and thought leaders.

The place of work is Warsaw, Poland.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project leadership for complex data software development and integration projects.
  • Manage a team of skilled data engineers and promote a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation within the team.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines, ETL processes, and data infrastructure.
  • Define project scope, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of data initiatives and their impact on business objectives.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for data quality, security, and governance, and ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations.
  • Assess new tools and technologies to improve data systems and support innovation.
  • Drive tough decision-making, whilst balancing business goals, technical implications, and timelines.
  • Design and implement processes for monitoring and validating data accuracy and integrity.
  • Optimize the performance of databases, data lakes, and data warehouses for reliability and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Work closely with analysts, developers, and testers to ensure functional designs and assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority to personnel.
  • Apply change, risk, and resource management (incl. financial and vendor management).
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of a variety of software and hardware solutions; multi-vendor environments and hybrid environment of on premise, co-located, and cloud-based services.
  • Effectively manage, support, and guide your team, including, but not limited to delegating tasks and responsibilities, assess employee performance and provide helpful feedback and training opportunities.

  • Ability to travel 5% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or field as outlined in the essential duties; or High School Diploma or 4th level vocational qualification in IT and 4 years of relevant experience related to the essential duties in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles.
  • 7+ years of experience working with enterprise data solutions such as MS SQL, OLAP, SSRS, SSIS, Databricks, Snowflake, Master Data Mgmt., Tableau and/or PowerBI.
  • 2+ years in a management capacity, leading and directing people.
  • Fluency in the English language (C1 or above per CEFR framework) and ability to communicate in English on technical topics relating to application configuration and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and their data services.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering high-quality data solutions in complex environments.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and regulatory requirements.
  • Authorization to work in the country of work without visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in cloud platforms or big data technologies.
  • Experience in data cleansing, preparation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Experience creating data-oriented applications in Tableau, Salesforce, Veeva.
  • Experience debugging data issues in dashboards, reports, data warehouses, operational data stores, and other disparate data sources.
  • Experience of data modelling as well as data Science methods and tools.
  • Knowledge of Python, AWS and Azure.
  • Experience with data warehousing and the ETL process (extract, transform, and load).
  • Experience developing dashboards and reports on data from sales, call center, and custom software applications.
  • Experience in working in a global company with business users located across multiple time zones.
  • Experience in molecular biology, genomics, translational science, and/or personalized medicine. 
  • Superior technical communication skills.
  • Knowledge of other languages (French, German, Italian, Polish, Spanish) and/or Japanese.
