Director - Global Head of Risk Platform Data
The Risk Platform group at TD Securities is seeking a Head of Data to build the next generation of our Platform. The core mission of the group is to help the firm quantify, understand, and reduce our exposure in case of adverse market conditions. We operate within a modern and complex area of finance, operating with sophisticated computational models, supporting trillions of calculations daily. We consume and generate data at scale.
Responsibilities
- Uplifting our Platform's data capabilities is central to the firm's growth strategy. In this role, the successful candidate will be a point-person for data initiatives for the Risk Platform group, with a portfolio encompassing the following:
- Ownership of the group's alignment with strategic TD Securities Data initiatives, including the definition of end-state vision, ownership and management of global delivery plans
- Work with Directors of Engineering to enhance data capabilities within the Risk Platform suite of applications. Provide architectural guidance and best practices
- Work with Technology partners within Enterprise and Architecture on cross-domain data integration initiatives
- Define and build out future state capabilities in partnership with other Directors of Engineering: ML strategy, uplifting data streaming and intraday capabilities, reduction of data hops and streamlining data distribution (elimination of copies), amending processes / tools to enhance the group's productivity & delivery
- Own and manage data management requirements for the group: integration with data lineage tools, CDE metrics management, manage regulatory requirements around data with Data Stewards
- The successful candidate will work with a variety of stakeholders including business partners across trading, finance, risk management and middle office.

- Work collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams at TD to solve business and technology challenges
- Provide technical leadership to the group and beyond, adopt a scalability and stability-first approach to design and implementation

Technical Skills
- Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate.
- Graduate degree, preferred.
- 10+ years in a Senior Technical role with a large exposure to the data space (Engineering, Architecture or related)
- Demonstrable experience of working with different data storage technologies (RDBMS, Big Data), an understanding of design trade-off between different solutions
- Experience in architecting large scale data applications within on-prem, single cloud and multi-cloud environments
- Demonstrable experience in researching, adapting, and rolling out new technology solutions, including stakeholder management and data migration
- Experience of data streaming technologies (Flink, Kafka or others)
- Experience of managing large scale, transformative data projects
- Experience of ML technologies and best-practices is a plus
Non-Technical Skills
- Experience in collaborating efficiently within a global team
- Strong communication skills, very strong presentation skills
- Experience in data management governance processes, e.g. cross-border requirements, lower environment requirements, CDE management, data lineage etc.…
- Demonstrable experience working in a fast-paced environment, and supportive of flexible goals aligned with business priorities
- Knowledge of derivatives pricing and capital markets is a plus
Depth & Scope:
- Role generally supports a significant business area, product group, Enterprise Platform, Service or Capability under a Segment CIO or technology functional area.
- Sets work direction at an operational level, works autonomously in the management of the unit and collaborates with other business or technology leaders to establish and execute on common goals with a medium to longer term business perspective
- Expert knowledge of the business and bank technology standards (e.g., infrastructure, architecture, processes, applications) from a strategic perspective and managing/ directing teams and projects
- Sound knowledge of external competition, emerging, industry and/or market trends in relation to own business
- Integrator role that oversees various technology functions / resources to deliver business technical solutions or shared service
- Oversees a sizable and varied team of technology professionals (e.g., up to 50+ consisting of Application Developers, Solutions Designers, Business Systems Analysts, Specialists, and/or Project Managers) in the end to end delivery of complex projects, system enhancements / applications and/or application or service management
- Directs/manages large-scale applications/ projects across multiple product lines/ businesses, involving significant scope and complexity
- Understands strategic direction (including financials) and champions alliances to benefit the Bank and/or department; advocates for operational improvements to enhance the divisions value to the organization
- Role typically reports to an Executive role
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate.
- Graduate degree, preferred.
