Torc Robotics
An AV leader since 2007, Torc is commercializing autonomous, self-driving trucks for safe, sustained innovation in the trucking industry.About the Company
At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.
A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.
Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.
Meet the Team:The Inference Engine team builds the critical middleware layer that powers Torc’s Level 4 autonomous trucking platform. Our mission is to enable safe, efficient, and scalable deployment of deep learning models across real-time autonomous driving systems. We design and optimize the software infrastructure that integrates AI models with GPU-based processing, ensuring high performance, deterministic execution, and seamless integration with the broader autonomy stack.
We work closely with Perception, Planning, Systems, Validation, Hardware, and Safety teams to ensure our models run reliably in both simulation and real-world environments — bridging cutting-edge AI with safety-critical automotive systems. About the Role:
We are looking for a technically strong and people-focused leader to guide the Inference Engine team as we continue to scale. While this is not a hands-on coding role, deep technical expertise is critical. You will drive technical direction, prioritize development efforts, navigate system-level integration challenges, and develop your team into a high-performing, collaborative organization delivering production-grade software.
This is a highly cross-functional leadership position where software engineering, GPU parallel computing, neural network optimization, and safety-critical system integration all converge. What You’ll Do:
- Lead a team of engineers developing GPU-based inference middleware for autonomous driving systems.
- Drive technical execution across key focus areas: model conversion pipelines (PyTorch, ONNX, TensorRT), GPU resource management, memory optimization, PCIe data transport, real-time data recording, and signal processing.
- Ensure reliable, deterministic, and scalable inference performance across multi-sensor systems in production environments.
- Partner cross-functionally with engineering teams across Perception, Planning, Systems, Validation, Hardware, and Safety.
- Build, coach, and mentor a growing team of highly skilled engineers.
- Manage team execution, career development, and professional growth while balancing short-term delivery with long-term roadmap goals.
- Establish scalable processes that enable safe, validated, and efficient software development in a safety-critical environment.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of full-cycle people management experience
- Extensive experience with PyTorch, ONNX, TensorRT, CUDA, and GPU-based neural network inference.
- Strong proficiency in C++ with a deep understanding of real-time systems and parallel processing.
- Experience with NVIDIA DriveOS and Linux-based development.
- Demonstrated leadership managing software development teams in technically complex environments.
- Strong understanding of system-level software integration, safety-critical design, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience with safety standards and certification processes for automotive or regulated industries.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced Agile development environment.
- Hands-on leadership style — willing to engage directly in technical discussions and design reviews.
- Experience building real-time inference platforms for production autonomous vehicle systems.
- Familiarity with ISO 26262, ASPICE, or other automotive safety standards.
- Experience with large-scale data recording pipelines and multi-sensor fusion processing.
