In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and forecasting global dry bulk shipping markets (e.g., Capesize, Panamax, Supramax, Handysize), with the aim of supporting commercial decisions, risk management strategies, and market positioning.

You will work closely with chartering, trading, and risk management teams to provide insights that directly impact business performance and strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Analysis: Monitor global dry bulk freight markets, including supply-demand fundamentals, fleet movements, congestion, and commodity flows.
  • Data Analytics & Forecasting: Build, maintain, and improve models that forecast freight rates, vessel supply, port congestion, and voyage economics.
  • Reporting: Produce weekly market reports and ad hoc analysis for internal stakeholders.
  • AIS & Trade Flow Monitoring: Track real-time fleet and cargo flows using AIS, satellite, and trade databases.
  • Chartering Support: Support chartering desks with vessel benchmarking, voyage comparisons, TC rate assessments, and forward freight market perspectives.
  • Risk & Strategy Input: Collaborate with derivatives/risk teams to inform hedging strategies using FFA insights and market signals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with brokers, owners, traders, analysts, and data providers to gather and validate intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in economics, Shipping, Finance, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 1-5 years of experience in dry bulk shipping, commodities trading, or shipping analytics (experience range can be adjusted).
  • Strong understanding of shipping market dynamics and vessel operations.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with data analytics tools (Python, Power BI, SQL, Tableau, etc.) is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with AIS and trade data platforms (e.g., S&P global, MarineTraffic, Signal Ocean, etc.).
  • Exposure to FFA markets and risk management tools.
  • Knowledge of commodity flows (e.g., coal, iron ore, grains, bauxite, alumina, fertilizers).
