About the Team

In 2024, Workday launched an Enterprise Data and Analytics team with a mission to transform and optimize the way Workday builds and shares trusted data to drive actionable insights and data-led innovation across the enterprise. The team has introduced a new, cloud based technical stack, a Data Product methodology anchored in the principles of DataOps, an active Data Governance methodology to handle the quality and discovery of data, and a series of modern analytics tools that facilitate discovery, analysis, visualization, machine learning, and AI. The team’s goal is to lead high value multi-functional data and analytics work and to establish and support the broader Workday analytics community by establishing modern, common ways of working, facilitating training and communication, and creating secure data and analytics brokering capability across business units.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior DataOps Engineer to help implement automation that drives the technical and business processes associated with Workday’s cloud based data platform. This would include coordinating with the Business Technology team, implementing the CI/CD for our data workflows, and helping to establish critical platform integrations to key governance and quality tools as well as downstream systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of DataOps principles, experience on teams that manage data as a product and leverage modern data tools (Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran), and a passion for automation and efficiency. This role will be instrumental in building and scaling our data platform to support data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on implementation of automated workflows and processes for the Enterprise Data & Analytics team, ensuring performance and alignment to architectural guidelines.

  • Implement and maintain DataOps CI/CD pipelines for rapid, reliable infrastructure and data product deployment, encompassing automated environment provisioning and management, testing, and linting stages.

  • Develop and deploy sophisticated data pipeline automation and orchestration solutions for efficient and reliable data workflows.

  • Implement and optimize monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve issues.

  • Collaborate across the organization.

  • Implement DataOps best practices through automated implementation of tooling (Snowflake, dbt, Atlan, Acceldata, Airflow, and Git).

  • Measure adoption and look for continuous improvement opportunities related to technology, process, and skills.

  • Drive and, to the extent possible, automate the creation of detailed documentation for implemented data pipelines and operational procedures.

  • Continuously tune developed solutions for optimal performance.

About You

The ideal candidate is a hands-on contributor, passionate about impact in data platform execution, with 6-8 years of experience. They will also have a demonstrated ability to translate business needs into data solutions, collaborating with others to deliver tangible results.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in the DataOps, DevOps, and/or Data Engineering space, or 6 years with a master’s degree

  • Proven experience (3-5+ years) with core data platforms and orchestration tools such as Snowflake, dbt, Airflow/FiveTran, and GitHub Actions.

  • Deep practical understanding and application of DataOps principles and methodologies.

  • High level understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing best practices.

  • 3-5+ years of hands-on experience implementing and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines for data platforms and products.

Other Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate optimally with technical and non-technical team members.

  • Familiarity with data cataloging, data lineage, and data quality solutions (e.g., Atlan, Acceldata) is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of data security best practices and ability to implement security measures, including security testing within pipelines.

  • Proficient in deployment strategies, environment management, and testing best practices for data products, with a focus on automation and quality.

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms.

  • Strong technical problem-solving skills at the implementation level, including debugging failed tests and pipeline issues.

  • Passion for automation and a track record of implementing solutions to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.

  • Experience working with agile methodologies and their application to the implementation of data engineering and DataOps tasks, with a focus on test-driven development principles.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.

Pursuant to applicable Fair Chance law, Workday will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

Workday is an Equal Opportunity Employer including individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.
