Job Description:
This position is a supervisory, unclassified position in the Office of Internal Audit at LSU domiciled in Baton Rouge, LA. The Senior Audit Data Analyst must be able to obtain, analyze, and interpret complex financial and operational data and present results in an easy to understand format such as charts, graphs, dashboards, or other visualizations. Responsibilities are to be fulfilled with a fair amount of independence and limited supervision. This position requires collaboration and interaction with the audit staff, cross-functional teams, and various levels of management. The Senior Audit Data Analyst must be detail, action, solution, and results oriented and dedicated to continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities:
40% - Extracts, accumulates, formats, and analyzes data from a variety of sources to support internal audit engagements, investigations, risk assessments, business needs, and management requests. May include identifying discrepancies, potential fraud, inefficiencies, non-compliance, patterns, and opportunities through statistical analysis, data mining techniques, and continuous monitoring scripts.
25% - Prepares detailed reports, dashboards, and visualizations to present findings, trends, emerging risks, anomalies or outliers, and recommendations based on insights in a clear and concise manner; continuously improves existing reports and dashboards to enhance usability and value.
15% - Generates workpapers to thoroughly document assumptions, methodology, sources, parameters, and validation of data accuracy and completeness to facilitate peer review and maintain compliance with professional audit standards.
10% - Makes positive contributions as demonstrated by accepting guidance from and working effectively with team members. Assists junior analysts and audit staff by sharing knowledge through coaching and reviewing workpapers related to data analysis. Performs other duties assigned by OIA management.
5% - Utilizes successful project and time management practices to prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks while meeting reasonable deadlines.
5% - Ensures professionalism and independence and the constant appearance of professionalism and independence. Maintains professional competencies and networks with peers to stay abreast of leading data analytics/visualization strategies, techniques, tools, and best practices to ensure quality work.
Additional Information:
In-state travel may be required, including overnight, up to 25%. Annual completion of 40 hours of continuing professional development is required as well as any additional prerequisites necessary to maintain active professional certification(s).
Minimum Qualifications:
Education Level: Bachelor's

Years of Experience: Three years of relevant experience
Specific Experience: Relevant experience includes data analytics, data science, business intelligence, computer science, auditing, compliance, higher education, healthcare, information systems/technology, or risk analysis and assurance services. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analytics/visualization tools (e.g., ACL, IDEA, Tableau, PowerBI).
Preferred Qualifications:
Education Level: Master's
Specific Degree: accounting, finance, economics, information systems, computer science, mathematics, or other field with acceptable relevant experience
Years of Experience: Minimum five years of relevant experience, with at least three in data analytics, business intelligence, or related function
Specific Experience: Experience in a related industry (university, healthcare, state government) or working with assurance providers (e.g., audit, compliance, risk management). Knowledge of statistical sampling techniques. Familiarity with Workday and/or PeopleSoft.
Preferred Certifications/Licenses:
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or
CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) or
CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) or
CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) or
applicable data analytics/scientist certification
Job Competencies:
Proficient:
- Written and oral communication skills
- Client relationships and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analytics/visualization tools (e.g., ACL, IDEA, Tableau, PowerBI).

- Designing/developing reports, visualizations, dashboards, or presentations that are understood by audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge
