Senior Data Engineer, MarTech Alliance (m/f/x)

The role

As a Senior Data Engineer on the AI Decisioning team in the Communications Tribe, you will be at the heart of transforming HelloFresh's customer engagement strategy. You will design, build, and operate the critical data infrastructure that powers our state-of-the-art AI decisioning platform. Your work will replace manual campaign processes with an automated engine that determines the right message, for the right customer, at the right time, on the right channel This is a unique opportunity to build the foundations for an AI-first marketing future, directly influencing how we engage with millions of customers globally.

What you’ll do

Platform Engineering & Operations

• Lead Core Infrastructure Development: Lead the design and development of robust, scalable data pipelines and data models using tools like Airflow, Python, and PySpark on Databricks.
• Develop & Steward Integrations: Create, maintain, and act as a steward for our resilient, API-driven integrations, ensuring they connect our platforms reliably.
• Champion Data Integrity: Drive improvements in our data quality, governance, and observability by implementing best practices in logging, alerting, and schema management.

Strategic Collaboration & Impact

• Enable Data-Driven Teams: Partner with Data Scientists and Product teams to build the infrastructure for machine learning and large-scale A/B testing.
• Serve as a Technical Partner: Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Marketing stakeholders, translating their business needs into scalable, automated data solutions.
• Guide and Mentor: Contribute to our team's success by mentoring other engineers, helping to establish technical best practices, and sharing your perspective to help guide our architecture.

Core Skillset:

• Data Engineering Background: A strong background in data engineering or a related field, with demonstrated success in building and maintaining reliable data pipelines and data models.
• Core Tech Stack Experience: You are comfortable working with Python, PySpark, and SQL. You have hands-on experience with data orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, AWS step functions) and cloud platforms (we use AWS, but experience with GCP or Azure is also great).
• A Mindset of Ownership & Initiative: You are proactive and accountable, with a passion for driving projects to completion and a knack for identifying potential issues before they become critical. You thrive on taking initiative within a collaborative team environment.

Nice to Haves:

• Domain & Tool Experience: Previous experience in the MarTech or CRM domains, or with tools like Customer Data Platforms (CDPs).
• Modern Platform Proficiency: Experience with data platforms like Databricks, designing API integrations or general backend software development.
• Experimentation Knowledge: An understanding of A/B testing methodologies and the data infrastructure required to support them.
