About the Role 

 

CBS is a highly qualified team with a proven track record, holding all six Microsoft Solutions Partner designations, including Data & AI, and recognised as a Microsoft Fabric Preferred Partner. We are proud to be one of only 42 partners out of over 1,700 across Australia and New Zealand to achieve all 6 designations. The Solutions department offers transformational IT capabilities to customers, specialising in Modern Infrastructure, Data and AI, Modern App and Information Security. Data and AI business unit focuses on delivering data modernisation and AI solutions to customers. 

 

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about delivering real business value through modern data solutions. You will be working directly with customers across various industries to design, build, and deploy scalable data platforms using the Microsoft Azure Data Platform, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Fabric. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role that blends technical expertise with consulting capability. This position also offers valuable exposure to engineering AI powered solutions, providing opportunities to work at the intersection of data and artificial intelligence. The role will be based from our Macquarie Park office in Sydney and report in to the Practice Head – Data & AI. 

 

Scope of Role 

 

  • Engage directly with customers to understand their data challenges, requirements, and goals  

  • Design and implement scalable and secure data solutions using Microsoft Fabric or other Azure data services  

  • Develop robust and scalable data pipelines to support analytics, reporting, and AI workloads  

  • Transform and integrate structured and unstructured data across various sources (on-premises, cloud, APIs)  

  • Optimise data workflows for performance and cost efficiency using best practices in Microsoft Fabric or Azure Data Services  

  • Provide technical guidance, documentation, and training to customers as part of project delivery 

 

About You 

 

We are looking for a talented and client-focused Data Engineer to join our Data & AI consulting team. They would possess strong analytical skills and be a natural at engaging with clients. They would be adaptable to working in different customer environments. Prior experience working with Power BI integrated with Fabric workspaces, AI Foundry/Azure AI studio would be highly preferred. Key Skills and Experience include - 

 

  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Services, including Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines), Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL / SQL Server  

  • Proficient in SQL  

  • Experience with Python, PySpark, or other scripting languages for data transformation.  

  • Strong understanding of modern data architecture concepts: lakehouse, medallion architecture, and ELT/ETL patterns.  

  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and metadata management frameworks.
