Job Description
Overall Purpose:
Grains & Oilseeds is expanding its data science capabilities and is now looking for a data scientist to help these efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data science, quantitative analysis, and statistics, and will be adept at integrating new technologies into a commercial environment.
The new data scientist will be able to independently answer to business requirements and is willing to get involved in the operational side of data science, including data integration, daily run plans, and improve business resilience.
Over time this role is likely to evolve as the firm invests into its technology stack, and the data scientist will be able to support the business by working on such projects as remote sensing, market analyses and vessel tracking. Wherever possible, the data scientist will be able to help more senior data scientists and researchers in putting forward research that supports new trading ideas.
Main accountabilities (Main Responsibilities) :
- Work with traders and research to automate and improve fundamental data pipelines
- Investigate our internal data sets to help researchers forecast S&D drivers
- Liaise with IT to ensure our technology stacks remain online
- Be willing and able to extract features from core and alternative data (e.g. weather forecasts)
- Collaborate with other data scientists across our other platforms
- Propose new models, new technologies where appropriate
Experience (including number of years):
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in data science
Education:
- Degree in Statistics, Analytics, Economics, or a related field involving numerical methods.
Languages:
- English Fluent – any other language an advantage
Technical/ Functional skills:
- Proficiency in statistical modeling, time series analysis, and machine learning.
- Strong programming skills in python.
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Data visualization and web/dashboard development.
Other skills and competencies:
- Ability to work with teams in different locations.
- Skill in explaining complex ideas simply.
- Effective time management and multitasking abilities.
- Interpersonal skills, ability to forge relationships with colleagues and external contacts
- Ability to work within a complex and international environment
- Self-motivated
Problem solving:
- Ability to understand business needs and potential issues.
- Propose innovative ideas and solutions.
Interactions/ interface:
- Main interaction with researchers and traders, as well as with the IT department on key projects
