At Leica Biosystems in Vista, CA, we engineer and manufacture Digital pathology scanners, which are high precision and automated electro-mechanical instruments for high resolution scanning of pathological samples.  Our vision is to advance cancer diagnostics and improve lives.

The Senior Engineer, AI Systems Test you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of AI-driven digital pathology solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Deep Learning scientists, software developers, and system engineers to design and implement robust verification strategies. This role emphasizes automation, system integration, and performance testing in a regulated environment. You will act as a resource for less experienced colleagues and may lead small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements.

You will report to the Manager, Software Development, and will be based onsite, in Vista, CA.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and implement test plans, test cases, and performance test utilities for AI-based systems, ensuring coverage of system requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead the automation of test cases and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines to improve testing efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to define system requirements, set acceptance criteria, and provide input on testability and quality risks during design reviews.
  • Manage, curate, and maintain large, complex datasets used for training, testing, and validating AI models.
  • Diagnose complex issues across hardware and software layers, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of QA processes and tools.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software testing or development, preferably in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., PyTest, Selenium, Cypress, Postman).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, R, PowerShell, or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience:

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), containerization (Docker), and orchestration tools (Kubernetes), along with familiarity with enterprise IT infrastructure including servers and lab automation systems.
  • Strong understanding of medical device regulations, design control processes, and cybersecurity standards and best practices.
  • Experience with AI/ML technologies and digital pathology workflows, supporting innovation in healthcare and diagnostics.

The salary range for this role is $130k - $145k This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.
