You will have an exciting position to implement and develop unique algorithms for novel vision systems in Sony Semiconductor Solutions, the world-leading image sensor company. You will:

  • Work as part of the computer vision team to develop high-level algorithms and then translate them into optimized embedded SW
  • Optimize AI-powered image processing algorithms on mobile embedded HW, including NPU, VPU, GPU, CPU
  • Work with novel sensors developed by our image sensor engineers
  • Use and build tools for profiling, reviewing, and validating algorithm outputs
  • Develop software models of embedded HW operations to guide algorithm development
  • Coordinate developments within a multi-cultural work environment that spans engineering sites from Japan, Europe, and North America across the Sony Group organization

You should have:

  • MSc or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, … or surprise us with a background that we did not think of yet!
  • Experience implementing custom or user-defined operations in deployment frameworks (e.g., TFLite custom ops, ONNX Runtime extensions, or user-defined layers in SNPE) for mobile HW
  • Basic knowledge of computer vision algorithms
  • Proficiency in C/C++, Python
  • Confident communication skills and fluency in English
  • Curiosity to actively learn and ask questions


You can set yourself apart if you have any of the following:

  • Knowledge of common computer vision AI models
  • Knowledge of model quantization, pruning, and compression techniques for mobile deployment
  • Experience with performance profiling tools for mobile application processors
  • Understanding of the DSP architecture concepts (e.g., instruction set, pipeline structure, memory hierarchy, SIMD)
  • Familiarity with popular DSP architectures (e.g. Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, MediaTek NPU)
  • Knowledge of modern software development methodologies and principles, such as CI/CD, containers, SOLID, etc.
  • Familiarity with Verilog or VHDL


The position is within the Sony Advanced Visual Sensing (AVS) group which is an R&D center of Sony Semiconductor Solutions based in Zurich, Switzerland and a former spin-off of the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). We develop novel computer vision algorithms, vision sensors and sensing systems based on our world-leading sensing expertise, including event-based cameras, CMOS cameras, and more.
