About the position:

A Senior Data Analyst is responsible for gathering, analyzing and problem solving as it relates to data, types of data, and relationships among data elements within a business system or IT system and with business domain expertise. A Senior Data Analyst provides expertise on how Business workflows map to data, and how data can be integrated to build reusable data products. A Senior Data Analyst will serve as a subject matter expert for delivery teams.
The Senior Data Analyst will play a key role in transforming complex data into actionable insights to support business decision-making processes. This role requires advanced knowledge of data analysis, visualization, and cloud data services, particularly within Microsoft Azure and the Power Platform. The ideal candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and data scientists to develop meaningful reports and dashboards, leveraging tools such as Power BI, Spotfire, and Tableau. A Senior Data Analyst will serve as a subject matter expert for delivery teams. The expectation for this role is 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Key responsibilities:

• Data Analysis: Extract, analyze, and interpret complex datasets using Microsoft Azure Services to derive insights that drive strategic business decisions.
• Data Modeling: Develop and maintain data models using Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure SQL Database to facilitate data analysis and reporting.
• Data Visualization: Create interactive dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI, Spotfire, and Tableau to effectively communicate data insights to stakeholders.
• Azure Services: Leverage Azure Data Lake for efficient data storage and retrieval, ensuring data consistency and quality.
• Power Platform Integration: Utilize Microsoft Power Platform to automate processes, build data-driven workflows, and enhance the efficiency of data analysis tasks.
• Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their data requirements and provide analytical support that meets their needs.
• Data Quality and Governance: Implement and maintain data quality checks and data governance practices to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
• Mentoring: Mentor junior data analysts and provide guidance on best practices for data analysis and visualization.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience: 5-10 years of experience in data analysis, data visualization, or related fields.
• Technical Skills:
• Microsoft Azure Services: Advanced proficiency in Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, and Azure SQL Database.
• Data Visualization Tools: Expertise in Power BI, Spotfire, and Tableau for building insightful dashboards and reports.
• SQL Skills: Strong skills in SQL for querying, transforming, and analyzing data.
• Power Platform: Experience using Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate and Power Apps, to create automated workflows and enhance data processes.
• Data Modeling: Experience in creating and maintaining data models that facilitate analytics and reporting.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify patterns and trends within large datasets.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present data insights to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
• Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team, collaborating with data engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, or a related field.
• Certifications: Microsoft certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate or Azure Data Scientist Associate are highly preferred.
• Experience with Big Data Technologies: Exposure to big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Databricks.
• Programming Skills: Knowledge of programming languages like Python or R for advanced data analysis.
Experience with Data Governance: Familiarity with data governance practices and data privacy regulations, ensuring compliance in data handling.Selection Criteria:

• Demonstrated expertise in working with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, and Azure SQL Database to manage and analyze large datasets.
• Ability to leverage Azure services for efficient data storage, processing, and analysis.
• Data Visualization Expertise:
• Strong experience in creating interactive and insightful dashboards using Power BI, Spotfire, and Tableau.
• Ability to translate complex data insights into visually appealing and understandable formats for stakeholders.
• Power Platform Integration:
• Proficiency in using Power Platform tools, such as Power Automate and Power Apps, to build workflows that streamline data analysis and business processes.
• SQL and Data Modeling:
• Advanced SQL skills for querying relational databases and creating optimized data models that facilitate analytics and reporting.
• Data Quality and Governance:
• Experience implementing data quality checks and governance practices to ensure data reliability and compliance.
Analytical Skills:
• Examples of how they have used analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data and analyze results
• Experience with data collection, cleaning, and preparation (Data Wrangling)
Communication Skills:
• Effective verbal communication during interview
• Examples of how they have collaborated with cross-functional teams and presented data insights to stakeholders
• Examples of framing analytics opportunities. How did they convey their findings?
Industry Knowledge:
• Examples of proficiency in oil and gas workflows, business processes, and data types

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
