Data Architect
Great Plains Communications is looking for an experienced and highly performing Data Architect to join our growing team.
This position can be remote and is only available in the states of NE/IN/CO or IA. Must be willing to travel to the Blair, NE corporate office occassionally as needed.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Designs and implements data architecture solutions to meet business requirements and technical specifications.
Implements data integration solutions to facilitate data movement, transformation, and synchronization across systems.
Manages PostgreSQL databases, including database design, configuration, optimization, and performance tuning.
Plans, manages, and directs Snowflake’s data warehouse architecture and operations.
Monitors and maintains database security, access controls, and data encryption mechanisms to protect sensitive information.
Creates and maintains documentation for data architecture designs, configurations, and best practices.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and translate them into actionable design specifications.
Collaborates with the Data Governance team that will monitor and audit data processes to ensure compliance with data governance policies.
Provides technical leadership and guidance to data management teams, developers, and other stakeholders.
Develops and enforces policies for data lifecycle management, including data retention, archiving, and disposal.
Works with database administrators to implement and optimize physical data models.
Collaborates with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to ensure reliable deployment and monitoring of data services.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and sources and translates them into effective data models.
Designs optimal table layouts, including strategies for partitioning, clustering, and indexing.
Creates and maintains comprehensive Entity-Relationship Diagrams (ERD) to visualize data entities, attributes, and relationships.
Designs data integration solutions to consolidate data from multiple sources into a unified model to eliminate redundancy and ensure data integrity.
Translates logical models into physical data models tailored for specific database management systems (DBMS) like SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
Defines and manages schema structures, naming conventions, and database organization in Snowflake.
Defines database schema, tables, indexes, and constraints to optimize performance and storage.
Maps data from source systems to target systems, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
Develops and documents data mapping specifications for ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
Develops and maintains a data dictionary that provides detailed descriptions of data elements.
Manages metadata to ensure data models are well-documented and easily understood by stakeholders.
Communicates data modeling concepts and designs effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Validates data models by conducting thorough testing and quality assurance checks.
Stays updated with industry best practices, trends, and tools in data modeling and architecture.
Continuously refines and improves data models to adapt to changing business needs and technologies.
Develops and enforces a data classification framework and access policies to protect sensitive information.
Collaborates with stakeholders to assess data sensitivity and implement security controls and role-based access.
Conducts audits, provides training, and ensures compliance with industry regulations and evolving standards.
Designs data infrastructure that supports AI, ML, and advanced analytics use cases.
Builds secure, scalable pipelines that integrate AI while ensuring governance and compliance.
Identifies innovation opportunities and aligns data strategies with business goals.
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience and/or training in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
5+ years of experience in data architecture, data modeling, and database management
Certifications in data architecture, database management, or related fields are a plus
Experience in the telecommunications sector desirable
For applicants in CO, the payscale is $90-120k DOE.
