Lead Underwriting Analytics

About the Role
This is a strategic leadership position that will directly manage a growing, mid-to-large team of product engineers, visualization specialists, and artificial intelligence specialists. The role requires a strong technical background, experience leading analytics teams and deep insurance product knowledge – experience in Underwriting leadership is strongly prefered.
You will be accountable for advancing both the operational and transformational elements of analytics across the Underwriting landscape—supporting business-as-usual performance and pioneering capabilities that shape our digital future. You will be expected to lead with vision, delegate with clarity, and build trust across the business and technical community.
Mandate
Empower Underwriting product areas and Market Units to lead the future of insurance by delivering industry-leading analytics and artificial intelligence solutions that are scalable, intuitive, and business-critical.
Key focus areas
• Visualization: Maintain and evolve reporting tools to deliver clear, timely, and actionable insights to Underwriting stakeholders.
• Initiatives & Outcomes: Drive execution of global analytical priorities that directly support Underwriting strategy and enterprise performance goals.
• Advancing Analytics: Lead the centralization, simplification, and scaling of analytical products to build a mature, sustainable, and future-ready capabilities landscape.
Artificial Intelligence in product transformation
• Enable Underwriters with real-time, context-aware intelligence that enhances decision-making.
• Operationalize LLMs and AI applications to support model-driven, interactive workflows.
• Deliver intuitive user interfaces that democratize analytics and drive business adoption at scale.
• Lead AI safety strategy and testing protocols to ensure responsible and compliant use of advanced technologies.
Primary Responsibilities
A. Product Engagement & Visualization Leadership
• Lead the design, testing, and maintenance of dashboards and reports supporting Underwriting operations.
• Uphold coding best practices with a focus on documentation, reproducibility, and maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with corporate technology teams to ensure seamless integration of requirements into architectural and system delivery pipelines.
• Ensure consistency in design, branding, and logic across visual tools, aligned with the enterprise data layer.
• Build trust and drive adoption of analytical products through clarity, usability, and alignment with Underwriting needs.
B. Advanced Analytics & AI Enablement
• Lead the end-to-end development of machine learning models that scale Underwriting insight and enhance decision-making.
• Deliver and operationalize generative AI solutions—such as intelligent agents—tailored to underwriting use cases.
• Ensure models are high-performing, scalable, and backed by clean, well-governed data
• Drive innovation in embedded analytics, algorithmic guidance, and decision support tools.
• Define and implement AI safety strategy and testing protocols in coordination with technology and risk stakeholders to ensure secure, responsible deployment.
C. Process Controls & Data Governance
• Promote metric clarity and consistency through transparent documentation of data limitations and interventions.
• Oversee exception handling, metric harmonization, and root cause analysis for inconsistencies, in partnership with data engineering and tech leads.
• Govern analytics tool throughput, ensuring alignment with corporate technology platforms and data infrastructure.
• Strengthen data quality accountability across stakeholder groups through active participation in enterprise Data Governance initiatives.
D. Transformational Leadership
• Manage and develop a cross-functional team spanning visualization, and [AI] product roles.
• Delegate with clarity, ensuring ownership, capacity alignment, and timely delivery across a portfolio of priorities.
• Set strategic vision and coordinate execution in close alignment with Underwriting, Data, and Corporate Technology strategies.
• Engage senior stakeholders with impactful communication, advocate for team needs, and champion the value of analytics across the organization.
• Foster a high-performance culture of innovation, ownership, and scalable excellence, while modeling strong collaboration with technology partners across the enterprise.
About the Team
You will join the Global Underwriting Data & Analytics team – a talented, curious and collegial cohort committed to solving the biggest challenges facing the industry today. The team brings a deep understanding of the Underwriting problem statement and the technical perview necessary to solve it.
About You
You are a strategic, hands-on leader with a track record of delivering ground-breaking analytics capabilities that empower business users. You are a unicorn. You understand Underwriting, and are technically strong, process-oriented, and capable of balancing near-term execution with long-term vision.
Qualifications and experience required:
• Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, or other rigorous technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in senior Portfolio management, Underwriting or Actuarial roles.
• 10+ years of experience in Data and/or Analytics leadership.
• Strong people management experience (5+ direct-reports preferred).
• Proven record of delivering scalable dashboards, reporting frameworks, and AI/ML solutions in a commercial environment.
• Strong coding proficiency in Python, SQL, R, Java, or similar.
• Cloud fluency across AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Palantir, or GCP ecosystems.
• Familiarity with model operationalization and continuous model integration.
• Excellent communication skills and senior stakeholder engagement experience.
