Job Description:
In the HPE Chief Technology Office, we lead the innovation agenda and technology roadmap for all of HPE. This includes managing the design, development, and product portfolio of our next-generation cloud platform, Green Lake. Working with customers, we help them reimagine their information technology needs to deliver a simple, consumable solution that helps them drive their business results. What you’ll do:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cloud Engineering Manager to lead our FinOps Development team within the HPE Cloud Platform organization. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and operational excellence to drive the development of innovative FinOps solutions that optimize cloud usage and costs while enabling business agility.
As the Cloud Engineering Manager, you will oversee a team of talented engineers responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-based applications that support financial operations (FinOps) best practices. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including cloud platform architects, finance teams, product managers, and business stakeholders, to deliver cutting-edge solutions that enhance our cloud financial management capabilities. Leadership & Team Development:
Lead and inspire a team of cloud engineers focused on FinOps application development, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Recruit, mentor, and develop team members to ensure their growth and alignment with organizational goals. Set clear goals, priorities, and performance metrics for the team and provide regular feedback to ensure accountability and success.
FinOps Application Development:
Drive the design, development, and implementation of cloud engineering applications that enable visibility, optimization, and governance of cloud costs and usage. Architect scalable, secure, and resilient solutions that align with FinOps principles (e.g., cost optimization, forecasting, usage analytics). Collaborate with product managers and business stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize features, and deliver value-driven solutions. Ensure seamless integration of FinOps applications with existing HPE cloud platform tools and systems.
Cloud Strategy & Innovation:
Lead efforts to optimize cloud infrastructure costs and usage patterns across HPE's cloud platforms, leveraging advanced analytics and automation. Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to identify opportunities for innovation in FinOps practices and cloud engineering solutions. Partner with cloud architects to align FinOps solutions with HPE’s broader cloud strategy and organizational objectives.
Operational Excellence:
Establish and enforce engineering best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps principles, and automated testing frameworks. Monitor and improve application performance, reliability, and scalability through proactive measures and robust incident management. Collaborate with finance teams to ensure compliance with cloud spending policies and reporting requirements.
Key Qualifications:
What you need to bring:
- Proven expertise in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud-native technologies.
- Strong knowledge of FinOps principles and cloud financial management, including cost optimization, forecasting, and governance.
- Experience with application development frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java) and modern software engineering practices.
- Familiarity with cloud monitoring and cost management tools, such as AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or third-party FinOps platforms (e.g., CloudHealth, Apptio).
- Proficiency in containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Leadership & Management:
- Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams, managing priorities, and delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, finance, and business teams.
- Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and align engineering efforts with business goals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience implementing FinOps practices within large-scale cloud environments.
- Knowledge of data analytics, machine learning, or AI tools for advanced cost optimization and forecasting.
- Certification in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and APIs for seamless integration of FinOps applications.
- Provides direct and ongoing leadership for a team of individual contributors designing, developing, and sustaining products, enhancements, and updates.
- Plans and delivers features for multiple ongoing projects, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated, and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.
- Manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders, setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs.
- Proactively identifies process improvement and cost reduction opportunities and achieves operational excellence through metrics and continuous learning.
- Provides people management for assigned team members, including hiring, setting, and monitoring of performance goals, coaching, and career development.
- Builds a best-in-class engineering team that delivers excellent results.
- Advanced project management skills, including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field.
- Typically, 7-10 years’ experience, including 0-2 years of people management experience.
