ABOUT THE JOB

The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Senior Data Analyst in the Analytics division of the Technology Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY or Washington, DC. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month. 

The ACLU Technology Department is a broad umbrella covering both the ACLU’s Analytics and its Product & Engineering teams, two robust and innovative divisions that power the work of the ACLU. The department provides trusted, dependable, and impactful analytics, engineering, as well as product design and management expertise for the ACLU. In partnership with experts across the ACLU, the technology team delivers best-in-class solutions, services, and innovation that advance the ACLU mission and organizational priorities. The tech team strives to ensure the ACLU leads by example in the ethical use of technology by ensuring privacy and security standards are maintained, directional insights are used to inform programming and business strategy, best-in-class products are designed to get the ACLU message out into the world and grow the ACLU supporter base, as well as to help steward high standards for algorithmic fairness, accountability, and transparency.

The Analytics division includes analysts, data scientists, survey experts, social scientists, and analytics engineers that support evidence-based decision making and bring quantitative insights on our issues to the courtroom and the public.

This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. It is represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

Reporting to the Director of Engagement Analytics, the Senior Data Analyst will be focused on the use of innovative reporting and advanced analytics to transform the way the ACLU approaches fundraising, advocacy, digital communications, and supporter engagement. This includes generating visual and descriptive analysis, building dashboards, and deploying solutions to help the ACLU identify meaningful insights, inform strategic decisions, and enhance engagement with donors and supporters across online and offline channels.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

You will be part of the Engagement Analytics team, and work with team members across Analytics as well as stakeholders in our Fundraising, Digital, Marketing, and Communications teams. You will work with our membership/donation data, web and digital data, and voter files. Below is a sampling of projects you can expect to dive into:

  • Design and build dashboards that guide decision making to improve donation rates and increase engagement across our digital landscape.
  • Produce and distribute “flash report” memos during moments of increased supporter engagement or high-profile events involving the ACLU.
  • Partner with stakeholders across fundraising, marketing, and digital to evaluate tests and performance of campaigns, content, and messaging.
  • Develop a quarterly engagement report and an annual web deep dive to gain insights and identify areas of opportunity across our supporter journey.
  • Work closely with our Analytics Engineering team to support engagement reporting by facilitating translating business logic into our data models and supporting data quality efforts.
  • Collaborate with product engineers to build web analytics tracking for new site features.
  • Train teams to use our BI and analytics tools (e.g., Heap, Tableau).

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • A background in marketing, digital, and/or fundraising analytics.
  • Fluency building analytics reports and visualizations using a variety of tools in an academic, political campaign, non-profit, or business setting.
  • Project management experience: demonstrate independence in scoping analytics projects and managing day-to-day project needs, including strong time management skills and expectation-setting.
  • Stakeholder management experience and ability to synthesize quantitative results for a wide range of non-technical audiences across various functions and levels of an organization.
  • Excellent cross-team communication: ability to communicate with data analysts, analytics engineers, data scientists, and managers.
  • Proficiency with at least one tool (e.g. Tableau, Hex) to develop accessible visualizations, dashboards, and reports.
  • A strong foundation in relational databases and proficiency in database query languages (e.g., SQL).
  • Experience with a modern data stack, especially dbt.
  • Familiarity with an analytics programming language (e.g. R, Python).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of CRM technologies such as Salesforce.
  • Knowledge of Web Analytics tools (e.g., Heap, Google Analytics)
  • Experience running and analyzing A/B or multi-variate tests.
  • Knowledge of latest trends and technologies in marketing and/or fundraising analytics.

COMPENSATION

The ACLU is committed to equity, transparency, and clarity in pay.
