We're looking for our first Data Analyst to join our growing Internal Audit team. You will help Starling to protect its assets, reputation and sustainability as it continues on its growth path and delivers fantastic products and services.

The successful candidate will be passionate about making a real impact to the Bank's controls and business processes because this is key to our mission.  The successful candidate will report to the Head of Technology Audit who reports to the Group Head of Internal Audit (SMF5). This role is open to candidates based in either London or Manchester. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Build and lead Internal Audit’s data analytics strategy and capability.  
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit colleagues to identify how best to use data analytics techniques in Internal Audit.
  • Using the existing audit universe, identify audit tests that can be completed using data analytics techniques (either testing within an ongoing audit, or stand alone testing). 
  • Complete these tests aiming for 100% sample coverage by defining the hypothesis to test,  accessing the required data, executing the test, and refining the test results to identify true exceptions.  
  • Manage a library of repeatable tests.  
  • Help train Internal Audit colleagues to use data analytics techniques themselves.  
  • Collaborate with business areas to help improve their automated testing.

Requirements

  • Data analyst with a high level of ability in using tools such as Google Looker, Qlikview, Python and R (Anaconda), Tableau, SQL, Cognos, and MS Excel. 
  • Successful track record of innovative use of data analytics to prove or disprove hypotheses. 
  • Not essential, but prior experience working in either an Internal Audit department, and/or a UK regulated bank.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Robotic Process Automation.
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, nimble yet highly regulated environment.
