SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The Power BI Specialist plays a crucial role in efficiently transforming data into actionable insights and driving informed decision-making across the organization. This individual will collaborate with various departments to develop, deploy, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports tailored to specific business needs. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently with limited oversight, proactively identifying opportunities for process improvement and data-driven innovation. This role also offers an exciting opportunity to leverage advanced Excel capabilities to automate manual processes, streamline data preparation, and enhance reporting efficiency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with all business departments to understand business requirements and translate them into effective Power BI and Excel-based solutions.
Design, develop, and implement Power BI dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that provide meaningful insights and drive data-driven decision-making.
Leverage advanced Excel functions, including Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA, and macros, to automate workflows, prepare datasets, and support reporting needs.
Utilize advanced data modeling techniques to optimize data structures and ensure the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of Power BI and Excel-based solutions.
Integrate data from multiple sources, including databases, APIs, Excel, and cloud services, to create comprehensive data models for analysis.
Implement best practices for data visualization and storytelling to communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting of Power BI and Excel solutions to ensure accuracy, performance, and scalability.
Collaborate with IT teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of BI solutions within existing systems and infrastructure.
Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to Power BI, Excel automation, and business intelligence to continually enhance expertise and drive innovation.
Provide training and support to end-users to promote self-service analytics and maximize the utilization of Power BI and Excel automation tools across the organization.
Maintain documentation, standards, and guidelines for BI development and usage.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Good communication skills and working well with people are essential.
Proven experience as a Power BI Developer or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing your expertise in designing and developing Power BI solutions.
Proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power Query, DAX, and M Query for data transformation and modeling.
Strong proficiency in SQL with hands-on experience querying, transforming, and analyzing data from relational databases; essential for building reliable Power BI and Excel-based solutions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA, and complex formulas, with demonstrated experience in automating data preparation and reporting processes.
Experience in data visualization best practices, including chart selection, color theory, and dashboard layout design.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into actionable insights.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or Microsoft Certified: Power BI are a plus.
Experience with other business intelligence tools and technologies, such as Tableau, QlikView, or Looker, is desirable but not required.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Business Analytics, or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in Power BI development, data analysis, or a similar business intelligence role.
