Principle Database - Vice President - Data & Analytics Engineering
Profile Description
We’re seeking someone to join our team as Vice President as a Senior Database Engineer to join and contribute to the Counterparty Data & Regulatory Tech (CDRT) practice area is responsible for the systems that support the client and account onboarding team’s database development and data engineering activities. The team’s activities are crucial for enabling the large Sybase and DB2 distributed and replicated databases that support the CDRT’s systems and functions. Database plant owned by the team is used across the firm for souring counter party data for all business activities ranging from trading, booking, reporting, clearing, reconciliation, settlement etc.

Operations Technology
Operations Technology develops and maintains systems in support of Morgan Stanley's global Operations , including (but not limited to) Settlements, Confirmations, Regulatory Reporting, Position Keeping, Corporate Actions processing and other post-trade functions. Operations Technology is a global organization that is client-focused and functionally aligned. Our organization is built to support our clients functional, regional and business-facing requirements while delivering innovative technology and ensuring plant and processing stability. The Firm operates at scale with up to 40 million trades processed on peak volume days and hundreds of billions of dollars of daily settlements with activity ongoing in multiple countries and currencies across the globe. There is a great breadth of financial products that our Operations plant handles across equity and fixed income, from cash products to complex derivatives and loans.
Data & Analytics Engineering
This is Vice President position that provides specialist data analysis and expertise that drive decision-making and business insights as well as crafting data pipelines, implementing data models, optimizing data processes for improved data accuracy and accessibility, including applying machine learning and AI-based techniques.

What you’ll do in the role:
The Counterparty Data & Regulatory Tech (CDRT) practice area is responsible for the systems that support the client and account onboarding, and the distribution of client and account reference data to other business functions across the firm.
Responsibilities
- Analyse, design, develop, test, maintain, and optimize database components like schema, stored procedures, scripts, views, triggers etc.
- Execute data engineering activities like building ETL pipelines
- Take complete ownership of relevant modules
- Participate in analysis and design activities with application development teams
- Implement and manage company data management practices and policies
- Undertake performance turning and troubleshooting
- Perform remediation of database hygiene issues.
- Document technical requirements, specifications, and solutions
- Implement continuous improvement
- Mentor skills within the DB team
What you’ll bring to the role:
Required Skills:
- Experience with enterprise-scale, real time, highly accessed transactional databases
- 12+ years of database development experience in Sybase/DB2 or any other RDBMS
- At least 8 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
- Experience in Big-data solutions like MongoDB, Elastic search, data lakes etc.
- 7+ years of experience in managing, development and tuning database code
- Experience on BOXI, Tableau and reporting
- 3-5 of experience of ETL development
- 2-4 years of scripting experience using Perl / Python
- Deep understanding of defect tracking tool such as Jira
- Experience/exposure to version control tools such as GIT
- Experience of working in Agile team.
Good to have:
- Experience/exposure to in-memory data stores like MemSQL
- Experience/exposure to NoSQL data stores like MarkLogic, MongoDB
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux shell scripting
- Open to learn new technologies
