This role is based in our Melbourne office with Hybrid working arrangement.

Role Purpose

The Role

  1. Solution Architecture - Leads the design and development of software/data solution for an Energy Retailer covering Retail, Risk, Trading and Finance functions
  2. People & Project Leadership - leads a team of 4 developers, designing, estimating and developing solutions for projects
  3. Technology Leadership – Provides technology leadership on Azure, identifies new technologies, engages across the Smartest group, and cloud computing costs

Key Responsibilities:

Solution Architecture

  1. Leads the design and development of software/data solution for each functional domain in the business:
    1. Retail - Progressive Purchasing, Demand Response, integration with Tally Billing and bespoke Pricing solutions
    2. Risk - Price forecasting, Price Curves, Credit management, Green Certificate, VaR, Stoploss
    3. Trading – Pricing of Retail contracts, position reporting for electricity and certificates
    4. Finance – Contract valuations, Workday integration
    5. Market Interfaces - integrations to external parties (AEMO, Meter Data Agents) for meter data capture and market data (AEMO MMS & MSATS)

People Leadership

  1. Leads a growing team, currently 4 developers, based in Melbourne including interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring, and performance management.
  2. Participates in projects, attends Steering Committees, accountable for design, development estimates, developer adherence to timelines, code quality
  3. As a member of the global architecture forum engages with across UK and USA ensuring solutions align to global standards
  4. Manages team capacity across multiple projects, small changes and production support
  5. Builds relationships and works with external suppliers / consultancies / recruiters to deliver projects and / or augment capacity as appropriate
  6. Build effective relations to VP levels

Technology Leadership

  1. Provides technology leadership on Azure with key strengths in
    1. Data warehousing – Data Factory, Synapse, Azure Function Apps, Azure Web Services
    2. System integration & data flow orchestration
    3. Data and Software enterprise architecture
    4. Cloud Engineering/Solution design & Platform management
  2. Identifies new technologies, product enhancements, product market places and identifies opportunities for implementation at Smartest including
    1. Cloud Computing - Azure
    2. Data warehousing – Azure Synapse, Fabric, PowerBi
    3. Workforce Productivity - GenAi / CopIlot
    4. CRM - Salesforce & Salesforce AppExChange
    5. Retail Billing - Tally
    6. ERP - Workday and Workday Marketplace.
    7. ETRM - Energy One Trading
  3. Engages across the Smartest group ensuring adherence to group standards by participating in the group architecture forum
  4. Identifies and proactively manages technical debt by effectively balancing project needs to go live while ensuring any tech debt is resolved as part of the project. Raising IT projects to get system refactoring prioritized where needed.
  5. Manages cloud computing costs and identifying opportunities to minimize spend

Performance Indicators:

  1. Technical staff are high performing, having both the technical skills and business acumen to work directly with business functions including Trading, Risk, Finance & Retail
  2. Critical systems are operational as per agreed SLAs
  3. Projects and small change are delivered on time, to scope and to acceptable quality
  4. The technology ecosystem remains robust and secure
  5. Cloud cost remains in budget
  6. Solutions re approved by Global architecture forum

Experience:

  • 3+ years of Energy Markets domain knowledge
  • 3+ years of experience in IT leadership roles, focusing on software development
  • 5+ years' experience in designing, estimating and developing enterprise scale data and software solutions
  • 5+ years working on Azure platform components including Data Lake, Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse/DWH, Azure Functions, Azure App Services
  • 5+ years experience in programming languages such as, C#, Java, Python
  • 5+ years experience in data platforms and query languages such as TSQL, Spark SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL
  • Azure DevOps, including code repository management and CI/CD pipeline.

Knowledge:

  1. Energy Markets, market operations, market data and power trading & retailing
  2. Certifications in Azure data and software engineering
  3. Qualifications in Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline
