The ACT, which stands for American College Testing, is a standardized test used by colleges and universities in the United States to assess a high school student's readiness for college. It evaluates academic potential and is a key component of the undergraduate admissions process. The ACT measures skills in areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics, helping admissions officers compare applicants.
About the Role:
As a Professional Scorer for the ACT, you will evaluate challenging written responses that are based on a stringent set of rubrics. The majority of responses on this assessment are scored by an artificial intelligence system; however, you will be tasked with scoring outlier responses that could not be assessed by the AI. These responses may not closely align with the prompts, requiring you to make nuanced scoring decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate student responses to open-ended questions reliably and score according to the provided scoring guide.
- Successfully internalize training materials and the customer scoring guide.
- Pass a qualifying test before beginning scoring.
- Apply the scoring guide without personal bias, adhering strictly to customer requirements.
Qualifications:
We are seeking qualified candidates to join our scoring team. Please review the following qualifications to ensure you meet the necessary requirements:
- Educational Requirement: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy is required.
- Assessment: Successful completion of the Versant qualification test.
- Confidentiality: Ability to maintain a secure and confidential work environment.
Training and Work Environment Requirements:
- You must attend mandatory training remotely
- Training and scoring will be available every day from 5:00am to 11:59pm Central or 3:30 pm to 10:29 am IST.
- The scoring window may change based on project needs.
- The maximum number of hours that you can work is 12 hours per day, with a maximum of 40 hours per week. Your supervisor must pre-approve any hours over 40
Personal Computer and Internet: Candidates must have access to a personal computer that meets the scoring system's specifications, as well as reliable internet service.
- Note: Use of shared office computers, institutional, or public computer labs is not permitted.
System Recommendations:
- Windows Users: The operating system must be Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, or 10.
- Mac Users: The operating system must be OS X Snow Leopard (10.6), Lion (10.7), Mountain Lion (10.8), Mavericks (10.9), or Yosemite (10.10).
- Preparation Tip: It is recommended to verify that your system is relatively up to date to ensure compatibility with the scoring platform.
Internet Requirements: A stable high-speed internet connection with a minimum speed of 25 Mbps is required for optimal performance.
