We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our actuarial team and lead various data-related projects. This role is crucial for the development and maintenance of our central Catastrophe (CAT) and Property Data Hub, which will feed into our corporate Enterprise Data Hub (EDH). The ideal candidate will have strong data engineering skills, with a focus on SQL programming and ETL processes, and will be comfortable working with both on-premises and cloud-based systems.The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines, models, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and other data infrastructure to support the organization's data needs. The role collaborates with data scientists and analysts to understand data requirements and develops scalable solutions. They build and optimize data pipelines, integrating data from various sources, ensuring data quality and consistency, and implement data governance practices.
What will your job entail?
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage data engineering projects within the actuarial team.
Develop and maintain a central CAT/Property Data Hub for reporting, analytics, and visualizations.
Integrate and centralize data from various source systems and data structures used by our Managing General Underwriters (MGUs) and CAT modelling team.
Automate ETL processes to ensure efficient data handling and processing.
Create and maintain Power BI dashboards for data visualization.
Perform ad hoc data analysis and support data science initiatives.
Collaborate with the cloud migration team to transition data processes to Azure.
Work closely with the CAT modeling team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. Computer science, Information Technology, or Actuarial Science is preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
5+ years of experience in Data Engineering with a Bachelor’s degree, or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree.
Experience with data engineering and data analysis.
Strong/Advanced SQL skills, including SSMS, SSIS, and ETL processes.
Extensive experience in data analysis, including the ability to interpret complex insurance data and derive actionable insights.
Proficiency in data visualization tools, especially Power BI.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the insurance industry, particularly in underwriting management/actuarial science.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly Azure, is highly desirable.
Knowledge of CAT modeling software (AIR and RMS) is a plus.
Knowledge of unstructured data handling and integration.
Familiarity with automation tools and techniques.

The target salary range for this position is $112,000.00 - $140,000.00 annually.The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
