Senior Data Scientist, Analytics

Introduction to the Team

The Traveler Business Team builds and drives growth for our global consumer businesses—Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. This division creates compelling and differentiated traveler value for each brand by setting the strategic vision, operating strategy, and plan. Responsibilities include investment allocation and prioritization, P&L accountability, and leading cross-functional teams across Expedia Group, who are all held accountable to a single scorecard.

We are looking for a curious, creative, and analytically sharp individual to join our Marketing Analytics team as a Senior Data Scientist. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a problem-solving mindset and a passion for turning data into actionable insights. You will provide powerful insights that shape the way the various EG brands reward their base of loyal members. This is a great opportunity to join a fun, exciting, data driven and customer centric company to partner with its Loyalty and Credit Card teams. You will be instrumental in helping define an engaging and rewarding loyalty strategy, powered by customer insight!

You will own the relationship with our stakeholders and help drive the improvement of many different areas within the loyalty programs including exploratory deep dives into members’ behavior; the set-up and analysis of A/B testing; devising novel methods to test changes to the program when A/B setups are not possible; and reporting on the performance of the loyalty programs. You will also have the opportunity to produce and deliver presentations to influence the thinking of senior people in the Traveler Business Team.

In this role, you will: 

  • Use data to support loyalty platform improvements, enhance the loyalty value proposition, and help brands reach their business goals.

  • Measure the true impact of loyalty initiatives by running A/B tests and using quasi-experimental techniques like Causal Impact and Propensity Score Matching to estimate incremental uplift.

  • Analyze customer behavior to uncover insights that help increase repeat bookings and reduce churn, guiding decisions that improve traveler engagement and retention.

  • Assist managers and teams throughout the company to understand the power and value of an analytical approach to decision-making and provide them with the insights that contribute to the strategic goals of the organization.

Experience and Qualifications: 

  • You have a master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Engineering, or related technical field with 4-7 years of experience OR 7+ years of experience in a comparable data analytics role with relevant experience.

  • Strong SQL skills; demonstrated experience of using languages such as R / PySpark / Python to structure, transform and visualize big data, and a willingness to learn new frameworks and languages required for the task.

  • Deep logical thinking and experience in taking complex analyses, simplifying them into actionable ideas and influencing stakeholders on strategic inputs. 

  • Proficiency in basic machine learning concepts and approaches, including understanding when to apply them, identifying trade-offs, and performing model iterations and optimizations.

  • Experience with designing, delivering, and maintaining data visualizations products through tools like Tableau and Power BI.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
