How you’ll make an impact

The purpose of the Data Governance Manager role is to lead the strategic design, implementation, and continuous improvement of data governance practices across the Platforms business. This role ensures data is protected, understood, and fit for purpose, enabling high-quality insights, regulatory compliance, and confident decision-making.

Strategic Leadership & Framework Development

  • Define and lead the execution of a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns with Platforms’ business objectives and AMP’s enterprise data policy and framework. Ensure the strategy is adaptive to regulatory changes, emerging risks, and evolving business needs.

Maturity Assessment & Capability Uplift

  • Assess the current state of data governance maturity across Platforms and develop a roadmap to uplift capabilities. Drive continuous improvement through targeted initiatives that close maturity gaps and embed best practices.

Policy, Standards & Operating Model Ownership

  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of data governance policies, standards, frameworks, and operating procedures. Ensure these are practical, scalable, and embedded into day-to-day business operations.

Culture & Capability Building

  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and data stewardship across the organisation, empowering business units to take responsibility for their data assets.

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance Integration

  • Partner with senior leaders, data owners, and technology teams to embed governance into business processes, platforms, and change initiatives. Facilitate governance forums and ensure alignment across business units.

Data Quality, Metadata & Lineage Oversight

  • Oversee enterprise-wide data quality initiatives, metadata management, and data lineage documentation. Ensure critical data elements are defined, monitored, and governed throughout their lifecycle.

Compliance, Risk & Audit Readiness

  • Monitor adherence to governance standards and support regulatory compliance, internal audits, and risk management activities. Act as a key liaison for data-related regulatory inquiries and reviews.

Thought Leadership & Innovation

  • Provide thought leadership on emerging data governance trends, technologies, and regulatory developments. Influence enterprise-wide data strategies and advocate for innovation in governance practices.

Platform Data Subject Matter Expertise

  • Serve as the go-to expert for Platform data. Provide strategic and operational support to projects, ensuring data governance requirements are considered from inception through delivery

What you will bring to the team

Ideally, you will bring the following experiences to this role: 

  • Previous 5+ years’ experience in a relevant data governance or data management role working across a fast paced, customer/client service orientated team environment and/or financial service industry and driving a collaborative, high performance culture  
  • Proven experience in leading and setting up data governance
  • Competent understanding of data governance frameworks, data lifecycle management, metadata, data lineage and deep quality principles 
  • Experience in designing and implementing governance operating models, including stewardship roles, governance forums, and escalation pathways
  • Proven experience working within regulated industries, preferably financial services, with a strong understanding of data risk, compliance, and regulatory obligations
  • Understanding of competitors propositions and Superannuation/Investment industry trends, as they relate to the wealth management, in particular platforms environment.
  • Understanding of the data risk obligations, regulatory and compliance regime for financial services.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in data, business, or risk disciplines (or equivalent experience
  • Ability to influence and engage peers/senior leaders to support execution of business outcomes.
  • Excellent relationship development and stakeholder management skills applied within a matrix business
  • Strong ability to demonstrate day to day decision making that drives good customer outcomes and supportive environment for team members
  • Ability to set targets & goals and drive delivery of results through others via effective leadership and coaching
  • Strong ability to analyse difficult problems and issues and identify solutions that improves or modifies existing processes or ways of working
  • Excellent communication skills in written, verbal, virtual and face to face
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well with senior team members to solve problems, or complex client accounts where necessary
  • Proven ability to work in an agile, dynamic environment
  • Flexibility to work outside of immediate role remit if needed
