In the role of Site Reliability Engineer – Data Analytics, you'll be at the forefront of transforming raw data into strategic insights. You combine many diverse sources of data to provide various levels of understanding for diverse needs such as anomaly detection for monitoring, dashboards to support problem management, service/infra business patterns for health checking, reporting to support services/infra improvement activities, impact assessment.

You work from a strong understanding how relevant and well positioned data supports decisions (operational, evolutionary and others). You are capable to provide clear, concise, and relevant data for that purpose. You identify gaps in data collection from applications, systems or infrastructure sources. You identify opportunities to structure data sources and ensure they conform to established formatting standards. You lead efforts to bring consistency and structure to dashboards and establish standards.

Continuous and fast learning is key in this field of data analytics, as it is evolving fast. You’re a responsible innovator and bring new operational data concepts and technologies, such as machine learning, to operations when the maturity level of these is appropriate for our use.

You develop and maintain a good understanding of workings of Swift Products and services to integrate data analytics with data driven processes/automation steps, as well as identify what is the right data and approach to use for the expected operational and business result.

What to expect

  • Development of Advanced Real-Time Elasticsearch Kibana Dashboards for the purpose of problem analysis & prevention, correlation of business services and the underlying infrastructure technologies and detecting abnormal behavior that would require further follow-up
  • Analysis of past incidents/problems for the creation of Kibana Alerting as part of problem prevention
  • Identification of required data points and data to enable sufficient Observability coverage, for the purposes of Dashboarding, Machine Learning job and alerting
  • Identifies and coordinates the continuous improvements (with our Tooling & Product Divisions) of telemetry data to enhance end-to-end visibility on application/service performance as well as business metrics while keeping operational workload reasonable, using Elasticsearch Kibana and related tools
  • Leverage the advanced tools and data for efficient application/service performance monitoring
  • Use and promote Open telemetry concepts and the Common Logging Framework (CLF) for data formatting and ingestion
  • Contribute to discussion as part of the Major Problem Reviews by:
    • Document any early warnings / indicators of the problem and plans to bring those warnings to Operations
    • Document what observability data was available in OASIS during the problem situation to avoid / prevent future problem occurrence. If no data was available, document plans to add relevant data to OASIS

What will make you successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT / Engineering
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar position in an operational environment employing data analytics for the purpose of problem analysis & prevention in support of mission critical applications and services.
  • Strong problem-solving orientation and skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Disciplined and process oriented attitude
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Experienced with Data Analytics concepts & methodologies, and tools such as Elasticsearch & Kibana and Microsoft PowerBI
  • Knowledge and understanding of Infrastructure Observability tools will be plus
  • Operating System Knowledge: Red Hat or any flavours of Linux
  • Data Analytics tools, including Elastic Search and/or Tableau, Power BI
  • Programming Languages: ElasticSearch & Kibana API, scripting languages, including Python, R, Perl are desirable
  • Data Architecture & Schemas: Understanding Data Schemas – particularly Elastic Common Schema (ECS) and Open Telemetry

The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position in Virginia is $97,464.00 USD Annual MINIMUM to $181,004.00 USD Annual MAXIMUM. Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Our compensation packages include a competitive base salary and bonus opportunity for all employee’s contingent on personal and company performance.
