As a Software Security Specialist Sr. within PNC’s Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA; Cleveland, OH; Birmingham, AL or Dallas, TX. The position is primarily based in a PNC location. Responsibilities require time in the office or in the field on a regular basis. Some responsibilities may be performed remotely, at the manager’s discretion.

We are seeking a Software Security Specialist Sr – AI Security to lead the secure design, development, and assessment of AI and GenAI systems across the organization. In this role, you will be the bridge between software engineering, AI/ML teams, and security, ensure that our AI-driven products and platforms are resilient against adversarial threats and aligned with modern AI risk and compliance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
· Conduct threat modeling and security reviews of AI use cases (e.g., RAG, agentic workflows, model fine-tuning, data labeling pipelines)
· Drive secure coding standards and practices tailored to AI systems (e.g., prompt injection mitigation, output validation, model access controls)
· Partner with AI/ML, software engineering, and cloud infrastructure teams to embed security early in the AI development lifecycle (shift left)
· Lead or support security incident investigations involving AI systems and model misuse
· Stay current with evolving AI security frameworks and research (e.g., OWASP LLM Top 10, MIT AI Risk Repository, NIST AI RMF)
· Contribute to the development of internal security tools, libraries, and testing frameworks for securing AI pipelines and APIs
· Support AI governance initiatives by helping assess risk posture, regulatory exposure, and alignment to responsible AI practices

Thought Leadership and Strategic Influence
· Act as a subject matter expert and advocate for AI/GenAI security across the organization and the wider security community
· Contribute to the development and evaluation of industry best practices, frameworks, and open-source security tools in AI
· Publish whitepapers, blogs, or research on emerging threats, controls, and design patterns in AI and GenAI security
· Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and standards groups
· Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop AI security strategy, influence engineering roadmaps, and share AI governance policies
· Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of security-minded AI innovation

Required Qualifications
· 5-8+ years of experience in application security, software security engineering, or similar
· Strong programming skills in Python, Java, JavaScript, with hands-on experience securing APIs, microservices, or cloud-native apps
· Experience security AI/ML workloads, such as LLM integration, model serving (e.g., Hugging Face, OpenAI, LangChain), or MLOps pipelines
· Deep understanding of secure software design principles, code-level threat modeling, and vulnerability classes relevant to AI systems
· familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and related AI/ML services (e.g., Bedrock, Vertex AI, Azure OpenAI)
· Solid knowledge of modern identity, AuthN/Z, and data protection practices in AI contexts (e.g., prompt-level RBAC, data leakage protection)
· Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to influence both engineering and executive stakeholders

Job Description
  • Responsible for enabling developers to create more secure software through coaching and mentoring developers and provides subject matter expertise to Application Security programs.
  • Works with developers to help them create more secure code.
  • Manages projects and tasks related to developer.
  • Sets secure coding standards and requirements with team.
  • Coaches developers on language specific coding techniques to avoid or remediate coding flaws.

Pay Transparency

Base Salary: $80,000.00 – $185,150.00

Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
