Job Description

Data Management Specialist

This is a highly collaborative role requiring both technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on developer who is passionate about data management

Note: This is a part-time position 17.5 hours per week.

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Design, build, and maintain relational databases to support application and reporting needs.
  • Create and manage data pipelines to collect, transform, and deliver data from various sources.
  • Help define and implement a data management strategy for the ELC.
  • Ensure data integrity, access control, and compliance with institutional policies.
  • Work closely with BYU’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) to ensure systems align with university-wide policies and integrate effectively within BYU’s technology ecosystem.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and technical teams to translate program needs into practical solutions.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 1+ years of experience with building and managing data pipelines or related work

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in CS or IS
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript (Vue.js, Node.js); SQL and relational database design; Claris FileMaker Pro; AWS S3 and vSphere; Linux and Windows server environments
  • Experience with: Python, React or Angular, Django or similar backend frameworks.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and workflows.
  • Experience with Git or other version control systems.
  • Understanding of institutional data governance and compliance best practices

Pay Grade: 52

Typical Starting Pay: $30.50 to $39.75 an hour
