About the team

The Customer Data team exists to provide a comprehensive view of each of Zillow’s customers. It owns data products that contain aggregations of customers’ activity on Zillow, AI model output predicting customer behavior, third-party data supplementing Zillow’s own data, and more. These data products are used by AI, Marketing, and Data Science teams to support numerous use cases.

The team owns several Customer Data products that help with user identification across sessions, capturing user behavioral metrics, transcribing user calls and more. We work in a decentralized work where Customer Data is produced by several teams and consumed in self-service fashion by engineering and product teams.

About the role

A Software Engineer (Big Data) in the Customer Data team at Zillow will be responsible for designing, building, implementing, and supporting data pipelines and products to serve machine learning (ML), AI, and analytical use cases for several business functions. The role involves collaborating with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and analysts to build high-quality datasets and data products that support producers and consumers of Customer Data (including AI). In this high-impact role, you will also focus on ensuring data quality, monitoring, and automation in data engineering processes, and contribute to the development and deployment of data products.

As a member of this team, you will:

• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and analysts to build, transform, and derive value from high-quality datasets, with a focus on enabling Customer Data products.

• Build self-service tools and platforms that tackle the challenges faced by both data producers and consumers

• Contribute to common infrastructure that powers these tools.

• Research and pioneer the adoption of new technologies within Zillow, especially those that advance the team’s AI and automation capabilities.

• Identify opportunities to evangelize and support best usage patterns of Customer Data

• Contribute back to common tooling/infrastructure to enable self service tooling to expedite customer onboarding

This role has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any part of Mexico, but preferably in Mexico City, as we would encourage attendance for occasional in-office events.

In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Who you are

• 3+ years of software development experience with high proficiency in Python, Scala or Java.

• Must have knowledge of data structures and algorithms and experience working with Open Source and data engineering technologies (Spark, Hive, Airflow, Kafka, Flink and AWS technologies etc )

• Ability to build end to end data pipelines including CICD, Data Quality, Monitoring & Alerting

• Experience with Data Modeling

• Must have SQL knowledge.

• Ability to work with large and small teams and able to work independently

• Possess strong problem-solving skills, sensible trade-offs and a positive attitude

• (Plus) Familiarity with Databricks stack

• (Plus) Familiarity with streaming technologies like Flink and Kafka.

• (Plus) DevOps experience with production systems.
