Senior Python Engineer

ISS STOXX is seeking an experienced Senior Python Engineer in Mumbai, India 

Overview:

In your new role you will be an Associate Engineer in STOXX’s index platform. STOXX operates the DAX and STOXX index families, which require an integrated end-to-end index development, production and operations platform. The platform is key to enabling STOXX to be more flexible, respond to clients faster, and reduce time-to-market for new indices.   

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Engineer to join our dynamic Index Engineering team to develop a cutting-edge technical platform for indexing and data management. As part of the team, you will contribute to the design, development, and optimization of scalable, high-performance systems on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), leveraging Python, modern engineering practices, and innovative problem-solving skills. This platform will drive our next-generation indexing systems, enabling advanced resilience, scalability, enhanced performance, automation, and quicker time to market.

In this role, you will be actively participating in the design, development, and implementation of solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, a passion for problem-solving, and ability to deliver in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Software Development: 

• Write clean, efficient and bug-free software meeting business objectives of quality, performance and timelines
• Ensure robust unit testing meeting our objective of high code coverage
• Contribute in the full software development lifecycle, ensuring the delivery of quality solutions on time and within budget. 
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide clear status reports to senior management
• Maintain integrity and transparency
• Utilize Agile methodologies, participating in and leading ceremonies as required. 
• Drive continuous improvement in development processes and practices. 

Quality Assurance: 

• Ensure high-quality outcomes through validation and verification testing of functional and non-functional requirements. 

• Support the smooth operation of platforms and applications supporting index services in a regulated 24x7 environment. 

Support and Improvement: 

• Serve as a technical point of contact, providing support and assistance in troubleshooting issues in platform operation, including occasional out-of-hours support. 
• Continuously improve operations by proactively predicting and addressing potential issues. 

Impact: 

• Provide technology to support the STOXX index business, facilitating the development of new index products and services in a cost-efficient and timely manner. 

Qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. 
• Significant experience (3+ years) in software development methodologies and Agile-based delivery. 
• Strong technical background with expertise in Python and experience in building scalable and robust applications.
• Proficiency with SQL or NoSQL databases 
• REST APIs: Hands on knowledge of REST APIs, atleast one python REST API framework
• Cloud knowledge (AWS/Google/Azure)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
• Understanding of quality assurance best practices within the software development process. 
• Keen interest in technology trends and their implications for business. 
• Problem-Solving Ability: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a passion for solving complex technical problems in creative ways.
• Agile Mindset: Comfortable working in an agile environment, adapting to changing requirements and delivering in iterative cycles.

Good to have:

• Experience in financial markets, indexing, backtesting technoglogies
• Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP/Azure/AWS.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• CI/CD & Automation: Experience in implementing CI/CD pipelines, testing, and deployment automation on cloud-based infrastructure.
• Experience with distributed systems, search indexing technologies, or machine learning pipelines.
