Microsoft’s Enterprise Resilience and Crisis Management (ERCM) team within our Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) organization is focused on enabling Microsoft to anticipate, prepare for, manage, and respond effectively to resilience risks and crisis events. We are recruiting a AI/ML Engineer, Crisis & Resilience to focus on leading the team into the Agentic AI era. Specifically, you will drive efforts to improve efficiency and effectiveness through the introduction of AI Agents. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying opportunities for automation and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as participating in associated cross-company collaborations.

The goal is to empower Microsoft to meet our customer commitments by ensuring the resilience of our critical services, business processes, suppliers, and their dependencies. This AI/ML Engineer will have a successful track record identifying AI opportunities, implementing AI Agents, and working across a diverse set of stakeholders to educate and inspire others to design and build AI solutions.

• Evolve through AI & Innovation: Execute AI solutions that measurably improve team workflows, enhance productivity, and align with the wider organization. Boost team productivity and support the growing use of autonomous & multi-agent workflows by creating an agent management framework in AI Foundry. Implement workflow automations and AI-assisted applications / agents to reduce labor efforts and maximize resource efficiency.
• System Architecture optimized for AI: Create and maintain a robust and secure system architecture that leverages the Microsoft stack, optimizes for AI, and minimizes dependencies on 3rd party software and systems. Rationalize existing tools and systems, and where necessary, upgrade solutions to simplified, consistent, modern engineering & security protocols.
• Build data pipelines and contribute to the management of Azure infrastructure (e.g., Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Kusto/Azure Data Explorer, Power BI, Azure Log Analytics, Data Flows, Fabric) 
• Perform analyses using a variety of analytical tools (SQL, Python, Synapse, Power BI, Fabric etc.), execute analyses and interpret results with actionable recommendations, and partners to build on others’ frameworks. 
• Technical Leadership and Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional ERCM team and broader Microsoft engineering teams, to ensure new tools & feature development is successfully implemented and can be easily maintained within the existing system architecture and team resourcing level
• Stay Up to Date in a Rapidly Evolving Ecosystem: Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and/or statistics. 
• 2+ years experience with technology architectures and solutions utilizing the Microsoft Azure stack which includes, but not limited to: Azure Synapse, Azure Fabric, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Data Explorer
• 2+ years experience with creating data pipeline ingestion processes (ETL/ELT), validation, and governance  
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of experience in end-to-end development for building, shipping, and iterating on AI solutions including creating AI agents.

Other requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or preferred qualifications

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience in end-to-end development for building, shipping, and iterating on AI solutions including creating AI agents.
• 2+ years experience with creating data pipeline ingestion processes (ETL/ELT), validation, and governance 
• Familiarity with AI Tools and the ability to create and utilize AI Agents to augment processes and procedures to increase team productivity.
• Proficiency in C#, Python, SQL, and Kusto along with familiarity with coding in multiple languages
• Ability to quickly ramp up on various AI/ML domains

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
