Job Description:

A Brief Overview

Analyzes and manages oncology data to support research and treatment systems. The Oncology Data Specialist is responsible for maintaining comprehensive databases of clinical and patient information, ensuring accuracy, and providing accessible insights to healthcare professionals.

What you will do

  • Case finding and abstraction of data through review of medical record(s) and information required for reporting by the Iowa Cancer Registry and other reporting systems as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive databases with clinical and patient information.
  • Review information and assure that documentation regarding histology, diagnostic confirmation, stage, grade, primary site (with laterality), and hospital code is accurate.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to refine data collection methods.
  • Create reports and summaries from data analysis related to Quality Assurance required by accrediting bodies as appropriate/requested.
  • Assist in developing Policies, procedures and protocols related to Cancer Data Abstraction.


Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree (AA) Data Management or Information Systems Preferred
  • 1-3 years Experience in healthcare data management Preferred
  • 1-3 years Oncology data analysis experience Preferred
  • 1-3 years ODS Certification within 3 years of Hire Required
