The Data Scientist will work as part of the Analytics and Decision Support department. The primary purpose of this position will be to enable the University through data and information for improved decision-making. This position will work closely with other business data analysts to develop technical requirements and comprehensive solutions to extract and transform data from multiple source systems for business use. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of balancing customer requirements/feedback while also performing data analysis using various tools and techniques.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Provide innovative analytics solutions for highly complex data challenges, working with internal and external partners to identify solutions.

2. Explore leading analytics approaches and methods to improve model-driven methodology concepts.

3. Partner collaboratively with other functional teams to access data elements, understanding the data being analyzed, and identifying improvement opportunities for the data ingestion process.

4. Designing rich data visualizations to communicate complex ideas to company leaders.

5. Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation and other business outcomes.

6. Mine and analyze data from databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies.

7. Design, document, develop, code, and test advanced analytics models into scalable advanced analytics solutions in a big data environment.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

A bachelor's degree and 5+ years' experience with SQL, report writing tools (Argos, SSRS, Tableau) required. Experience testing and maintaining core enterprise systems to ensure they are meeting operational needs and optimizing business processes. Industry certification in applicable business unit subject matter or technology preferred. Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
