Job Description

Dewberry is seeking a Hydrology Discipline Lead to join our Resilience Solutions Group, with a focus on advancing the state of the practice in water resources planning and design, through advancing the state of the science in inland hydrology and hydrometeorology. For this role we are seeking a senior professional, who brings deep technical expertise, leadership in federal water resources programs, and a passion for innovation in hydrology, statistics, and risk analysis.

 

In this position, you will lead the design and development of scientific workflows and cloud-based systems that support hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling, flood risk analysis, and climate resilience. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, planners, and software developers to deliver impactful solutions for federal, state, and local clients.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute scientific workflows that integrate hydrometeorology, statistical hydrology, and geosciences.
  • Lead staff in the implementation of solutions for hydrologic modeling and flood risk analysis, including training, coaching, and mentoring engineering staff to adopt and apply innovative methodologies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with mission objectives in flood hazards engineering, floodplain management, and climate adaptation.
  • Develop and maintain open-source tools and APIs for hydrologic and statistical modeling, leveraging modern DevOps practices.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, white papers, and interagency reports.

Required Skills & Required Experience

Required Qualifications

  • MS in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, statistical methods, and federal water resources programs.
  • Proven leadership in technical teams.
  • Deep expertise in hydrometeorology, extreme flood hydrology, and probabilistic risk analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and a track record of interorganizational collaboration.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with databases and geospatial database design.
  • Familiarity with Go, python, java, or similar programming languages.
  • Knowledge of machine learning applications in hydrology.
  • Experience with Docker, cloud services (e.g., AWS), and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license and certifications including Professional Hydrologist (PH) and Certified Floodplain Manager (ASFPM).
