Job Description

Are you passionate about data and excited to be part of a team that is driving transformational change? Come join us at Rituals as a Staff Engineer and be part of our journey towards building a more efficient and effective data ecosystem. To enable Rituals’ growth ambition, we are reorganizing into a data product setup that will result in a more scalable and maintainable system. We are looking for a driven individual to support us in this endeavor. You will not only be joining as a staff engineer, together with your other colleagues in Digital and Technology domains you will be setting up a staff engineering guild and shaping the role together.

Role Purpose

As a Staff Engineer in the Analytics Engineering team, you will play a critical role in scaling Rituals' data and technology capabilities. You act as the bridge between enterprise architecture and concrete solutions — translating strategic direction into high-quality, maintainable, and scalable data applications. You lead by example, elevate engineering practices, and drive technical excellence across domains. In short: your role is a hybrid between a solution architect and a lead engineer.

This role is essential to ensure Rituals' data platform and analytics landscape can scale with the organization’s rapid growth, enabling innovation while maintaining performance, reliability, and governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate enterprise architecture into concrete technical designs, solution architectures, and production-ready code.

  • Oversee the quality of development across analytics engineering teams; drive engineering excellence through peer reviews, standards, and mentoring.

  • Introduce and promote modern engineering practices (e.g. CI/CD, testing strategies, observability, infrastructure as code, DevSecOps).

  • Lead architectural and technical decisions for scalable, secure, and performant data applications.

  • Collaborate with Product Owners to align technical capabilities with analytics domain needs and roadmaps.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and make informed decisions on their adoption in the tech stack.

  • Drive product thinking and the creation of reusable data products across teams.

  • Guide and mentor (mostly external) engineering teams to build high-performing, autonomous delivery teams.

  • Be involved in the hiring process of new engineers by assessing profiles and interviewing candidates

  • Ensure operational stability, cost efficiency, and future-readiness of data applications.

Key Stakeholders

  • Data engineering development teams

  • Analytics Engineering Manager

  • Product Owners and Product Managers

  • Fellow Staff Engineers across the Digital and Technology domains

Strategic Value

As Staff Engineer, you are instrumental in safeguarding the integrity, scalability, and strategic alignment of Rituals’ data technology landscape. You ensure that our applications and engineering practices grow in pace with the business — enabling future innovations, operational excellence, and the continued expansion of our digital and data capabilities.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • 6–8+ years of experience in software and/or data engineering, with at least 2–3 years in a technical leadership or architecture role.

  • Deep expertise in building data platforms, and cloud-native technologies (e.g. GCP, AWS, Azure), preferably also experience with event-driven and microservices architectures,.

  • Strong understanding of data processing frameworks (e.g. Spark, Flink, Beam), orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, Dagster), and modern data stacks (e.g. dbt, Dataform).

  • Strong understanding of modeling, contracts, governance, and product-oriented delivery in a data context.

  • Experience designing and scaling distributed systems, APIs, and infrastructure.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills — able to explain complex technical concepts to business and leadership audiences.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-team architectural initiatives and change efforts.

  • Comfortable with security, privacy, and compliance aspects in data environments.

  • Strong belief in continuous improvement, engineering culture, and technical craftsmanship.
