Associate Architect, Technology

Organization overview:
In our Content-driven technology company, the Content Delivery and Productization engineering organization is responsible for the content delivery via shared services supporting all our Tax and Legal Research products. Our enterprise search technology is the key differentiator in the market for our Legal research products. Our Big Data Team plays a critical role in designing, developing, and availability of key systems that provide data and advanced AI and machine learning algorithms to our award-winning Westlaw, Westlaw Edge, and Practical Law products. We operate in a global, cutting-edge, and fast-paced environment building large-scale systems, solutions, and shared services running on the public Cloud.  

Job overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Architect who combines solid technical credentials with a high degree of business acumen for the position of Architect within our Architecture team.  In this role, you will collaborate with technology peers and business partners to shape and implement cutting-edge solutions, driving innovation, and contributing to the success of our business. 

You will need to set the technical direction for enterprise Big Data solutions and workflows for numerous products across the organization.

  • Architect software systems and solutions for research products. 

  • Provide technical leadership supporting business initiatives and functional requirements. 

  • Champion non-functional requirements (e.g. security, scalability, monitoring, etc.). 

  • Keep abreast of new technology and advancements in technical domain. 

  • Drive proof-of-concept work around new approaches and technologies 

  • Participate in the community of architects on standards, guidelines, and practices.

  • Promote learning and collaboration amongst teams.

  • Mentor others interested in architecture, systems, design, influence, and leadership.

About You:

You’re a fit for the role of an Associate Architect, Product Engineering if you have:  

  • 4-year degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics or related studies

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience, plus 3+ years of architecture/design experience preferred.

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing scalable Big Data solutions and search index optimisations.

  • Hands-on experience with relevant technologies such as Scala, EMR, Python, Java, REST, Hadoop, Spark, Elasticsearch, and other Big Data tools. 

  • 5+ years of experience with Java and/or Python

  • 3+ years of experience with Oracle databases and SQL experience. 

  • Excellent understanding of AWS services and their applications. 

  • Experience with Generative AI, NLP, Cognitive Computing, and Machine Learning.

  • Experience with Agile, TDD, Dependency Injection, CI and other software engineering best practices. 

  • Proven experience designing complex and robust publishing systems.

  • Proven experience developing solutions for high-volume, scalable systems that deal with extremely large data sets.

  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to synthesise business requirements with technology capabilities to produce coherent technical designs.

  • Excellent and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills supported by exceptional written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to others.

  • Ability to operate across organisational boundaries and to influence vendors and technology staff, and have an impact on the internal and external technology community.
