Job Description

Role Summary

We are seeking a Technical Project Manager (TPM) to lead the end-to-end delivery of AI and Data initiatives for high-impact clients across the African continent. This role requires a blend of technical fluency, project leadership expertise, and client-facing consulting capability.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams across data engineering, data science, and business consulting, ensuring delivery excellence and measurable business impact from AI & Data transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. AI & Data Program & Project delivery

  • Lead cross-functional teams to deliver AI and Data projects on time, within scope, and to expected quality
  • Define and manage project plans, sprint schedules, dependencies, risks, and issue resolution
  • Drive delivery across model development, data readiness, deployment, and operationalization (MLOps)
  • 2. Stakeholder engagement & Value realisation
    • Act as the primary interface between technical teams and business stakeholders
    • Translate complex technical progress into clear business outcomes and business impact
    • Align delivery with broader client transformation agendas (AI strategy, platform, use cases, operations)
    • Facilitate collaboration across AI/ML, data engineering, and platform architecture
    • Understand AI use case pipelines: experimentation, model development, evaluation, deployment
    • Support the definition of scalable AI operating models, platforms, and governance structures
    • Establish cadence of status reviews, steering committees, and retrospectives
    • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, risk logs, and financial tracking
    • Ensure compliance with delivery methodologies (Agile, Scrum, hybrid)

Qualifications

8–12+ years total
3–5+ years in technical project or program management
2+ years managing AI/ML or advanced analytics initiatives

Delivery Context:

Experience in consulting, digital transformation, or enterprise technology delivery (client-facing roles preferred)

AI/Tech Understanding:

Familiarity with ML lifecycle, MLOps, data science workflows
Basic understanding of cloud-native AI platforms (Azure ML, Vertex AI, SageMaker)

Methodologies:

Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Hybrid delivery approaches
Experience managing cross-shore or multi-market teams

Education:

Bachelor's in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related
Master’s preferred

Certifications:

PMP, Prince2, or Scrum Master (bonus: SAFe, AI/ML certifications)

  • Formulate reasonable judgements and conclusions in order to deliver informative and timely outputs: Uses judgement and consults appropriately when dealing with complex matters, applying an appropriate level of professional scepticism.
