Join our dynamic and innovative Fraud Analytics team, where we are committed to safeguarding millions of Canadians from fraudulent activities across various Interac products and business. We leverage advanced data analytics and cutting-edge technology to stay ahead of fraud trends. We are looking for a talented Data Scientist Intern to drive our fraud detection efforts through actionable insights, robust data solutions, and collaborative research. 

 

The Data Science Intern will be responsible for providing actionable insights into rule-based fraud detection, feature development, and statistical analysis of new and existing fraud trends. The Data Scientist will work under general guidance of Data Specialists or Managers to identify, design, develop and support data solution for business. The Data Scientist will also work with the fraud teams to provide deliverables including research insights, data assets, and visualizations to help the end-user develop a better understanding of the topic. 

 

  

You’ll be responsible for:    

  • Identify and implement improvements for existing data products to improve accuracy, usability, and performance. 

  • Research and develop new data science tools to improve the countermeasure process, including testing and validation. 

  • Conduct ad-hoc data analysis, create reports, and respond to data inquiries with actionable insights using various reporting and data visualization tools. 

  • Develop and test Fraud detection rules and conduct fraud trend & alert analysis 

 

 

You bring:    

  • You are currently enrolled in a university or college program with a track record of academic excellence in a relevant discipline, like statistics, quantative financial analysis, math, computer science, business analytics 

  • Solid verbal, written and analytical communication skills – you have experience writing complex concepts, ideas, visuals and thoughts clearly and succinctly 

  • Comfortable with learning and working effectively either independently or with groups across different functions and levels. 

  • Proven experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and feature development within relevant industries 

  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation/analysis and have knowledge in reporting and data visualization 

  • Experience with databases such as Redshift and Oracle 

  • Familiarity with building and testing machine learning models on cloud platforms. 

  • Knowledge of data mining, databases, SQL and Machine learning 

  • You are a storyteller with data – you're analytical, organized and have strong interpersonal skills 

  • A sense of curiosity – you enjoy taking initiative to learn and conduct independent research to help drive results 

  • You are a proactive and analytical problem-solver with a demonstrated track record being able to identify issues as they arise and can triage accordingly 

  • Although not required, you have some familiarity or previous experience with the following:  

  • Previous internship experience as a data scientist, data analyst or business analyst 

  • Understanding in banking/payments industry is a plus 

  • Familiarity with risk or fraud detection context is a plus 

  • Focus and dedication to improve analysis process and ensure data accuracy 

 

Workstyle: Hybrid (3 days on-site) 
Location: Toronto 
Term: September to December 2025 
Duration: Monday – Friday
