The Hussman Institute has an exciting opportunity for a Post Doctoral Associate position. The incumbent performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

Department Specific Functions

We are searching for a postdoctoral associate with expertise in computational biology and/or bioinformatics to join our interdisciplinary group studying the functional genomics of tandem repeat expansions and related structural genomic changes. In this role, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in the analysis and interpretation of multi-omics datasets including whole genome sequencing, bulk and single cell RNA sequencing, chromatin conformation assays, and the integration of these approaches. The studies involved will have a focus on cancer and neurodegeneration genomics. The postdoctoral associate will be responsible for spearheading the design and implementation of data analysis through open source or in-house developed pipelines, adapting and troubleshooting analytical methodology, and synthesizing and reporting data back to the larger research team. We are searching for someone with the requisite analytical experience but also strong oral and written communication skills, a collaborative spirit to work as part of a research team, and an ability to work independently on these projects.

Qualifications:

•            PhD with demonstrable experience in one of the following areas: bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, biostatistics

•            Working proficiency in appropriate programming languages and software (eg. R, Python)

•            Excellent oral and written English communication skills as demonstrated by publication record

•            Experience in one of the following topics is strongly suggested: broad bioinformatics experience with a good working knowledge of genomics / transcriptomics / single cell analysis / high throughput sequencing data processing

•            Experience in working with deadlines and being involved in multiple projects simultaneously

•            High intrinsic motivation and strong scientific curiosity

•            Ability to be inventive and to present novel ideas in method development and application, data analysis and interpretation

•            Team player that can work independently in a multidisciplinary team

•            Proactive, flexible, and problem-solving attitude
