The Role: Data Scientist, Sustainability Score Analytics

The Team: Join S&P Global Sustainable1, your go-to source for essential sustainability intelligence, as we seek a Data Scientist to enhance our ESG Scores & Methodology team. This position offers direct engagement with raw sustainability data from the Corporate Sustainability Assessment and insights into our scoring methodology. Our team is composed of seasoned professionals dedicated to uncovering transformative solutions for the future. We foster a casual, friendly atmosphere characterized by an entrepreneurial spirit. As a collaborative team member, you will enrich the unique culture and energy of our department as it continues to evolve.

The Impact: As a Data Scientist, you will be pivotal in delivering high-quality score outputs and analytics, along with spearheading the development of innovative methodologies. You will also play a key role in creating and maintaining data imputation models.

Responsibilities:

  • Innovate ESG Scoring methodologies using Python
  • Conduct ESG data analysis and effectively communicate findings to internal stakeholders through clear verbal and written presentations, including graphical data representations.
  • Calculate and distribute proprietary ESG Scores in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain and enhance existing machine learning algorithms while developing new ones, leveraging the extensive Social, Governance, and Environmental datasets available within the organization.
  • Collaborate with a diverse, global team to promote best practices in modeling and ensure deliverable quality.

Qualifications:

  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VBA experience is a plus).
  • Proficient programming skills in Python, with experience in AI applications for programming.
  • At least two years of professional experience working with large, complex datasets to support business and investment decisions, demonstrating expertise in data quality control, source documentation, and synthesizing complex technical data into actionable insights for clients.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a quantitative field such as science, economics, engineering, or mathematics.
  • A-level or equivalent in mathematics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to clients and stakeholders in an easily understandable manner.
  • Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and possessing a positive, “can do” attitude.
  • Detail-oriented and numerically proficient, with a natural curiosity and innovative problem-solving approach.
  • Personable, with proven ability to plan and execute work assignments under tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a diverse international team.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Familiarity with S&P Global’s traditional business and insights on integrating ESG into future product development.
