Job Description

Role Overview

The Director of Data Governance Catalogs will lead the strategic development and operational execution of operations data cataloging capabilities, with a specialized focus on metrics standardization, data transformations & integrity, and metadata management. The Director role is critical in enabling trusted, scalable, and AI-ready data ecosystems across the organization and will be a key driver in transforming how the organization understands and uses its data across 1,400+ systems.

The Director will oversee the design and integration of catalogs:

  • Metrics – the authoritative source for operational and enterprise metrics used in reporting, analytics, automation, and compliance.
  • Transformation – documenting and governing how data is transformed across systems and processes, and maintains the integrity of data taxonomy & references
  • Metadata – enabling discoverability, lineage, and context for data assets across 1,400+ systems.

The role requires a blend of technical fluency, governance expertise, and leadership to implement strategy, drive adoption, ensure data clarity, and support enterprise-wide data initiatives.

The Director will manage a growing team (initially 6–7) and serve as a strategic partner to enterprise data governance, operations risk, technology, and business executives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and communicate the vision for Operations Data Catalogs.
  • Align catalog strategy with enterprise data governance, AI, and analytics initiatives.

Catalog Development & Oversight

  • Metadata Catalog: Enable federated integration with enterprise tools and improve discoverability of operational data.
  • Reference & Integrity Catalog: Collaborate with technology to reduce reporting overhead and support single-source-of-truth environments.
  • Metrics Catalog: Standardize operational metrics for reporting, analytics, automation, and compliance.

Governance & Risk Management

  • Maintain inventories of data flows, reports, and controls.
  • Measure adoption of data governance programs and lead remediation efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with internal risk frameworks and external regulations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build and lead a matrixed team of data professionals across business lines.
  • Partner with enterprise data governance, operations risk, technology teams, and business executives.
  • Engage with data processing engineers, application engineers, and product teams to ensure catalog integration and usability.

Technical Enablement

  • Leverage AI tooling to automate metadata capture and accelerate catalog development.
  • Support querying and data transformation using SQL and Python.
  • Understand and navigate complex data ecosystems (1,400+ systems) to ensure clarity in data production and consumption.

Change Management & Team Development

  • Upskill a diverse team with varying technical backgrounds.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into accessible language for business leaders.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years in data governance, metadata management, or enterprise data architecture.
  • 5+ years leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven leadership in building and scaling data cataloging capabilities.
  • Experience with AI tooling and metadata automation platforms.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis and transformation.
  • Familiarity with Azure and AWS cloud ecosystems.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in financial services or other regulated industries.
  • Background in operational data governance and metrics standardization.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for data cataloging and metadata management.
  • Exposure to PowerApps or similar low-code platforms (nice to have).

Location Expectation

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $149,515.00 - $175,900.00
