About the Role
Ā
Principal ā Cybersecurity Emerging Technologies is BHPās SME on securing next-generation technologies that underpin modern mining operations and the resource value chain. The role shapes strategy, designs security architectures, and drives risk-informed adoption of innovations such as Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), Internet of Things (IoT) & Digital Twins, Advanced Robotics, Blockchaināenabled supply-chain transparency, Advanced Materials & Processing platforms, and Advanced Geophysical Technologies.Ā

Reporting to Head of Digital Trust, the Principal acts as a trusted advisor to Cybersecurity & Architecture leadership, ensuring that cutting-edge solutions delivered by the business are without compromising safety, resilience or regulatory compliance.

You bring the following experience
Ā
- 12+ years in cybersecurity, with 5+ years securing OT/ICS or large-scale industrial environments.
- Demonstrated leadership of security architecture or R&D programmes covering at least two of: AI/ML, IoT/IIoT, autonomous robotics, blockchain, or advanced sensing.
- Defined cybersecurity roadmaps for emerging technologies such as AI/ML, IoT, robotics, blockchain, geophysical technology used in exploration, extraction, processing and logistics.
- Aligned with business objectives, ICS/OT safety standards, and frameworks (NIST CSF, ISA/IEC 62443, ISO 27041-27045).
- Led design reviews and threat modelling for new deployments of new and emerging technologies (e.g., autonomous haul trucks, smart sensors, AI-driven ore-grade prediction).
- Developed specialised risk-assessment methodologies for AI models, digital twins, robotics, safety systems etc.
- Evaluated emerging cybersecurity tools (e.g. AI model-watermarking, zero-trust micro-segmentation for IoT) as well as recommend and lead appropriate assessments for these (e.g. proof of concept, production pilot etc.)
- Developed and supported cybersecurity policies, patterns and control baselines for emerging technologies, including but not limited to secure SDLC for ML pipelines, cryptographic key management for blockchain platforms, safety interlocks for robotics etc.
- Established specialised playbooks for emerging technologies for example AI-model poisoning, robotics sabotage, sensor spoofing, and blockchain smart-contract exploits.
- Coached and supported cybersecurity architects, OT engineers, and data scientists in secure design practices for emerging technologies such as AI/ML, robotics, and IoT.
- Identified, implemented and evaluated the success of continuous improvement activities/initiatives to improve safety, productivity, cost and revenue outcomes for the business.
About You

You haveĀ
Ā
- Hands-on experience conducting threat modelling, penetration testing, or red-team exercises against OT and emerging-tech stacks.
- Ability to document complex technical information clearly and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Benchmarks, CSA CCM) and how to apply them in practice.
- Experience working with decentralised teams and stakeholders
- Bachelorās degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Science, or related discipline
- Certifications such as CISSP, GIAC GICSP, ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Expert, CCSK/CCSP, Certified AI Security Professional (CAISP) or equivalent.
