Job Description

Purpose of the role

To develop and lead the execution of business unit/function data strategy, ensuring the effective and efficient use of data to drive informed decision-making, support regulatory and control requirements, improve operational efficiency, and generate business value. 

Accountabilities

  • Definition and oversight of data governance and procedures to address control and regulatory requirements, including Data Privacy.
  • Definition and oversight of data analytics and insights that support the effective management of the business and well as driving commercial outcomes.
  • Development of a team of data professionals with expertise in data analytics, data engineering, data science, and other relevant disciplines.
  • Analysis of the bank's current data landscape, identify key data assets and gaps, and develop a roadmap for future data initiatives.
  • Monitoring team performance and setting clear performance expectations.

Join us as Head of Cloud Adoption & Business Data Architecture - FTC role to lead the delivery of core components of the UK Corporate Bank Data Strategy, specifically key Cloud Adoption & Business Data Architecture elements of the Data Engineering and Integration Programme.  In addition, you will be responsible for driving alignment of consumption and adoption of UK Corporate Bank and Barclaycard Payments data, as well as capacity planning and cost optimization for the Barclaycard Payments platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with the business teams across UK Corporate Bank, as well as BX partners across Enterprise Data Platforms, CDAO, CDO, CTO, Corporate Data Services and other UK Corporate Bank Data stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Head of Data Enablement and as a senior member of the data team, they will play a crucial role in shaping and delivering end-to-end data solutions that align with our data strategy to deliver business objectives.

Essential skills:

  • Strong leadership experience:  Leading and working with virtual teams across geographies and technology knowledge.
  • Excellent process optimisation experience: Being able to adapt a process optimisation mentality across multiple scenarios.  This would include system performance, process performance, user journey/experience, cloud cost management.
  • Proven problem solving experience: Able to demonstrate practical problem solving experience both as an individual and as empowering teams to problem solve.
  • Experience of large data transformation projects: Supporting and enabling end users to adopt new simplified data landscapes and adapt to more modern tooling.
  • Cloud analytics experience: First-hand experience of the additional considerations and complexities of running analytics in a cloud environment, and how to support end users to get the most out of analytics on the cloud.


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience specifically using AWS cloud analytics would be beneficial.
  • Proficiency in preparing senior stakeholder communication packs.  Ability to translate between technical detail and business meaning and impact.
  • Good understanding of project delivery including planning, execution and risk management.
  • Good understanding of data warehousing principles and SQL would be beneficial.
  • Ability to drive creation of business cases to support cloud adoption.
  •  Experience of using analytics tools from other cloud vendors could also be beneficial.  For example Snowflake, DataBricks.
