Role Description
The Head of Forecasting and Reporting at OLX will lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable forecasting models and automated reporting systems to drive data-driven decision-making. This role combines technical leadership (machine learning, statistical modelling, and data engineering) with strategic oversight to ensure accurate predictions and real-time business insights. You’ll collaborate with Data Science, Engineering, and Product teams to build robust systems that forecast demand, user behaviour, marketplace dynamics, and operational metrics. You will also have a key role during the planning process, partnering with commercial and business analytics teams on inputs to the models and scenario modelling.
This position is hybrid (2x office days) in either our offices in Poznan or Warsaw. Candidates must be based and eligible to work in Poland.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Forecasting Model Development & Deployment: - Lead the design and implementation of machine learning and statistical models (time series, regression, ensemble methods) for demand forecasting, pricing optimization, inventory trends, and user growth. - Own end-to-end forecasting pipelines—from data ingestion and feature engineering to model training, validation, and production deployment (e.g., using Python, PySpark, TensorFlow, or proprietary tools). - Ensure models are scalable, maintainable, and integrated with OLX’s data infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, or internal platforms).
2. Data Infrastructure & Reporting Systems: - Architect and optimize data pipelines (batch/real-time) to support forecasting and reporting needs (e.g., Airflow, Databricks, Snowflake). - Build self-service dashboarding and reporting tools (Tableau, Looker, Metabase) for stakeholders across finance, operations, and executive teams. - Automate reporting processes to reduce latency and improve accuracy (e.g., via APIs, ETL workflows).
3. Performance Monitoring & Governance: - Establish KPIs and monitoring frameworks to track forecast accuracy, bias, and drift; iterate on models as needed. - Enforce data governance and quality standards for forecasting inputs and outputs. - Conduct A/B tests and scenario analyses to validate model performance.
4. Cross-Functional Leadership: - Partner with Engineering to deploy models into production and with Product to integrate forecasts into decision-making (e.g., dynamic pricing, resource allocation). - Translate business requirements into technical specifications for data scientists and engineers. - Mentor a team of data scientists and analysts focused on forecasting/reporting
Who are looking for:
- Education: Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.- Experience: - 7+ years in data science, ML engineering, or advanced analytics, with a focus on forecasting/predictive modeling. - Proven track record of deploying production-grade ML models (e.g., for marketplace dynamics, supply-demand balancing, or revenue optimization). - Experience leading technical teams in fast-paced environments (tech, e-commerce, or platforms preferred).
- Technical Skills: - Languages: Python (Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyTorch), SQL (advanced) - Tools: ML Ops (MLflow, Kubeflow), big data (Spark, Hadoop), cloud platforms (AWS/GCP). - Data Systems: Data lakes/warehouses (Redshift, BigQuery), workflow orchestration (Airflow, Luigi).- Soft Skills: - Ability to explain complex models to non-technical stakeholders. - Strong project management (Agile/Scrum) and collaboration skills.
