What’s the role?

An exciting opportunity is available for an Engineering Manager (AI and Intelligent Automation) in Sydney. 

Westpac Group has a globally recognised intelligent automation team who are passionate about making Westpac a faster and better bank. We are growing our intelligent automation capabilities by supporting AI agents which allow us to deliver “wow” colleague and customer experiences.This hands-on role blends technical skills, leadership, and a passion for innovation in AI-driven automation.

This role calls for hands-on expertise in intelligent automation technologies like AI, RPA, IDP, and workflow tools to support delivery teams, run experiments, and drive solution development. It also involves mentoring a skilled team, promoting innovation, and working closely with product, data, and operations teams to deliver impactful solutions. The role also supports best practices across the development lifecycle, including Agile, CI/CD, testing, and monitoring, while addressing the challenges of AI-driven solutions.

What do I need?

  • Proven track record in delivering intelligent automation solutions within Financial Services or large enterprise environments. (Ideally, 3 years in an engineering leadership role and 5 years of experience in implementing intelligent automation initiatives- Desirable)
  • Well-versed in emerging AI technologies, with the ability to translate advancements into practical, real-world solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning and AI frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGen, or similar.
  • Capable of transitioning between hands-on technical contributions and strategic leadership, while motivating and bringing out the best in team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications in intelligent automation platforms such as Blue Prism, UiPath, Hyperscience, PEGA, AWS Q, or Microsoft PowerApps are highly regarded.
