WHO we’re looking for:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior SAS Developer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with SAS BI Tools, SAS programming, and ETL processes, and a strong background in working with large-scale data environments.

As a Senior SAS Developer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance data workflows, ensure accurate data reporting, and implement efficient, high-performance SAS solutions.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Modify and enhance existing SAS code for compliance with updated coding standards, including optimization and debugging.
  • Develop and maintain ETL processes using SAS ETL Studio and SAS DI Studio to efficiently manage large datasets.
  • Implement complex data analysis tasks using SAS/STAT, SAS/IML, SAS/Graph, and other SAS programming tools.
  • Utilize SAS SQL Pass-Through to interact with various databases including DB2, SQLSVR, Teradata, Snowflake, MySQL, and Oracle.
  • Leverage SAS Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Information Delivery Portal, SAS OLAP-Cube Developer, and SAS Information Map Studio to generate insights from data.
  • Create and optimize custom reports and dashboards using Tableau to deliver critical data insights to stakeholders.
  • Perform data integration and transformation tasks in Hadoop and Snowflake environments.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior developers and team members on SAS best practices, optimization techniques, and advanced programming methods.
  • Collaborate with other development teams to ensure smooth database migrations, such as from Teradata to Snowflake, and assist with data integrity during these transitions.
  • Develop solutions to monitor and report abnormal system behavior or data inconsistencies, utilizing SAS tools for validation and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee SAS code migration between development and production environments.
  • Actively engage in problem-solving and root cause analysis of issues affecting data accuracy and system performance.

Required Experience and Education:

  • 8 - 12 years of experience in SAS programming, with a focus on 9.4 SAS/STAT, SAS/IML, SAS/Graph, and SAS Base.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field is required.  Master’s Degree (quantitative or technical discipline is a plus / preferred).
  • SAS Certifications (e.g Base SAS, Advanced SAS Programmer, SAS Data Integration Developer) are Preferred.
  • Proficiency in SAS BI Tools (e.g., Information Delivery Portal, OLAP-Cube Developer, SAS SQL Pass-Through).
  • Proven experience working with large-scale databases such as Teradata, Snowflake, MySQL, DB2, and Oracle.
  • Experience with SAS 9.4 Viya, ETL Studio, SAS DI Studio, and SAS EG for data integration and reporting.
  • Advanced knowledge of SAS Macro programming and the ability to create scalable and efficient solutions.
  • Experience working with Hadoop and Snowflake for data storage and analytics.
  • Strong proficiency with Tableau for report and dashboard development.

Technical Skills:

  • Extensive experience with SAS 9.4 Viya, Business Intelligence tools (SAS Information Map Studio, SAS OLAP-Cube Developer, etc.)
  • Base SAS, SAS Macro Language, SAS SQL, SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Studio, and SAS Viya 9.4.
  • Experience working with large datasets and complex joins, data cleansing, and statistical modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as Oracle, Teradata, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with data warehousing, data modeling, and ETL pipelines.
  • Ability to integrate SAS with tools like Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or Python/R is a plus.
  • Familiarity with version control tools such as Git, Bitbucket.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based databases and data platforms such as Snowflake and Hadoop.
  • Expertise in SQL, including experience with SAS SQL Pass-Through.
  • Familiarity with programming and scripting languages like Python or R is a plus.
  • Experience with SAS Grid, SAS Management Console, and SAS Eminer for data management and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with industry-standard data governance and data security protocols.
  • Experience with automation and system administration tasks related to SAS environments.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior developers and promote a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Modified and enhanced production SAS reports to meet updated coding standards, including using pass-through connections to DB2 and SQLSVR.
  • Delivered SAS programming support for remediation efforts, ensuring customers were adequately compensated for banking errors.
  • Developed programs to harmonize time series data and utilize SAS/IML and ODS for reporting.
  • Converted SAS code from Netezza to Snowflake and mentored junior developers in advanced SAS techniques.
  • Developed SAS solutions for the Anti-Money Laundering team, enhanced program efficiency, and used Tableau for data visualization.

Requires considerable (90%+) work utilizing high visual acuity/detail, numeric/character distinction, and moderate hand/finger dexterity.

 

Performs work under time schedules and stress which are normally periodic or cyclical, including time sensitive deadlines, intellectual challenge, some language barriers, and project management deadlines. May require working additional time beyond normal schedule and periodic travel.
