What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Data Modelling Engineer, you’ll develop and maintain EHV network models in PowerFactory, automate power system analysis, and support regulatory reporting. The role requires strong expertise in power systems, Python programming, and data integration across platforms like SCADA, GIS, and SAP.

  • Develop and maintain up-to-date PowerFactory models for the EHV networks within the SP Distribution area.

  • Support and enhance SPEN’s power system analysis tools, scripts, and automated processes across platforms such as PowerFactory, PI/SCADA, GIS and SAP.

  • Perform detailed analysis and prepare data for annual Line Loss Factor calculations.

  • Conduct Forward Cost Pricing analysis to support EHV distribution charging.

  • Lead the delivery of Week24/42/50 reporting, data exchange with adjacent DNOs, Long-Term Development Statement (LTDS) production, and contribute to industry working groups to ensure license and grid code obligation are met.

  • Provide technical guidance to senior management, peers and operational teams within your area of expertise.

  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to effectively communicate network technical and security requirements ensure that SPEN’s position is well understood and viewed favourably.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience in the GB power system, with strong skills in power system analysis software (especially DIgSILENT Powerfactory) and coding solutions

  • Experience in performing complex power system studies (load flow, short circuit and power quality studies)

  • Excellent written, verbal and technical communication skills, with excellent attention to details

  • Ability to manage diverse and high-pressure workloads effectively

  • Demonstrate ability to deliver complex, computationally intensive project to a high standard within tight deadlines.

  • Innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to diverse practical solutions to complex challenges

  • Strong influencing and communication skills to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences

As a minimum, you will demonstrate:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering with experience in data science and programming languages application.

  • Proficiency in power system modelling, knowledge of network analysis and design practices particularly using DIgSILENT Powerfactory

  • Strong python programming language development skill for automating power system assessment and data management (e.g. Python, data handling, etc)

  • Excellent IT literacy, including Microsoft Office and engineering software.
