About the team

Zillow Group’s mission is to give people the power to unlock life's next chapter. StreetEasy is owned and operated by Zillow Group and specializes in the NYC market. Indeed, it is estimated that eighty percent of people searching for a home in New York City used StreetEasy or one of the affiliated Zillow Group websites.
StreetEasy is reimagining the way people buy, sell, and rent homes across New York City and New Jersey.

StreetEasy’s website and mobile apps provide vetted and verified listings, plus intuitive search tools and data-driven guides to help people unlock the opportunity of living here.

We are a technology driven group who constantly strive to use data to build groundbreaking products. The creative and innovative solutions we build are used by millions of people in New York and across the country.

About the role

As a Senior Data Scientist at StreetEasy, you will employ a broad variety of data science skills, all with the aim of creating a fantastic consumer and partner experience at StreetEasy. You will work on large, ambiguous and cross-functional problems with our Product, Marketing & Strategy & Operation teams and come up with data driven insights that push the business forward.

This role helps understand questions such as:

  • User insights & segmentation: how do users behave on our site (and beyond) and what patterns can we identify? Can we segment users in ways that help our marketing and product teams provide a better experience?

  • Experimentation: can we standardize the way we run A/B tests and automate all our test analyses? How can we run 10x more experiments in 1-2 years?

  • Reporting and storytelling: how can we succinctly summarize how our business is performing? What metrics should we track, how should we define them and why?

  • Data modeling and data architecture: how do we structure our data so that it can easily answer most questions? How do we expose the data to other teams?

This role has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any part of Mexico, but preferably in Mexico City, as we would encourage attendance for occasional in-office events.

In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Present and interpret customer insights, metric development, testing methodologies, and experimentation results to technical and non-technical partners.

  • Identify, define, socialize, and break down complex problems in your organizational domain and partner collaboratively with other teams to build solutions that fix enterprise wide problems.

  • Champion the importance of data and data driven decision making.

  • Create dashboards in Tableau & Databricks

  • Create frameworks that can be reused by other team members, e.g. simulations or causal inference analysis.

  • Design and execute experiments (ex: A/B tests) that measure the impact of product changes. Frame experimentation problems, both statistically and within the business and customer context.

  • Work with engineering teams to improve data collection procedures to ensure integrity and quality of the data.

  • Create data transformation pipelines using tools such as dbt

  • Mentor and coach junior team members

Who you are

You are a generalist who enjoys every aspect of Data Science, from simple data pulls to advanced statistical models. Specifically, you will have:

  • BS degree in an appropriate technology field (Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, Operations Research, Economics, etc.).

  • Advanced English proficiency, as most of the stakeholders are US based

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex issues and detailed analysis into simple, structured frameworks with concrete action plans.

  • A track record of running 80-20 analysis, i.e. the ability to quickly solve problems with data in the fastest, most efficient way possible.

  • Strong proficiency in SQL & Python (or another programming language); experience using Tableau and Databricks.

  • 5+ years of work experience involving quantitative data analysis and complex problem solving.

  • Strong product sense and business acumen. The ability to connect the dots between business needs and the data.

  • Experience working with x-functional partners, especially engineering, product and marketing
