The Data Engineer is responsible for the design, execution and maintenance of high-quality data products and data architecture to support the Stride Texas Managed Public Schools. The position participates as a member of the Texas Data team by using their expertise in data engineering and programming to build systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into useful data systems that drive decision-making and reporting on a variety of Key Performance Indicators. Overall, the Data Engineer will strive for efficiency by aligning data systems with business goals.

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
- Assembling large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements;
- Identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes;
- Building and maintaining required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources using Snowflake, Python, and SQL technologies;
- Building analytical tools to utilize the data pipeline, providing actionable insight into key business performance metrics including operational efficiency and customer acquisition;
- Building processes that support data transformation, workload management, data structures, dependency, and metadata;
- Collaborate with analytics and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility, and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization;
- Perform data analysis required to troubleshoot data related issues and assist in the resolution of data issues;
- Work closely with all business units and engineering teams to develop strategy for long term data platform architecture;
- Work collaboratively with BI Developers and analysts (end to end) to ensure high quality and best practices;
- Support initiatives for data strategy (governance, documentation, and normalization);
- Process confidential data and information according to guidelines;
This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
- 3+ years of Python or Java development experience
- 3+ years of SQL experience
- 3+ years of experience with schema design and dimensional data modeling
- Ability in managing and communicating data warehouse plans to internal clients
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining data processing systems
- Excellent analytic skills associated with working on unstructured datasets
- Ability to build and optimize data sets, ‘big data’ data pipelines, and architectures
- Demonstrated success working with others in an Agile project environment.
- Process oriented with great documentation skills
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint)
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- Ability to clear required background check
Certificates and Licenses: None required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with ETL Pipeline tools (Snowflake, SQL, dbt)
- Experience with Data Visualization tools (Power BI)
- Demonstrated experience in handling large data sets and relational databases
- Experience with low-code automation tools such as PowerAutomate/PowerApps
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in K12 education as a teacher or researcher or data personnel
Compensation & Benefits: Stride, Inc. considers a person’s education, experience, and qualifications, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value when determining a new employee’s salary level. Salaries will differ based on these factors, the position’s level and expected contribution, and the employee’s benefits elections. Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the range.
We anticipate the salary range to be $40,575.60 - $116,983.20

Eligible employees may receive a bonus. This salary is not guaranteed, as an individual’s compensation can vary based on several factors. These factors include, but are not limited to, geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions.
