The opportunity

Job Summary:

The Office of Sustainability at Southern New Hampshire University is hiring a data-driven and detail-oriented student to serve as a Data Analytics and Reporting Eco Rep. This position plays a critical role in supporting the university’s sustainability goals through data analysis, reporting, and visualization.

The role is particularly focused on supporting sustainability reporting efforts such as AASHE STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) by performing data collection, validation, analysis, and dashboard/report generation.

This position is ideal for a freshman or sophomore with an interest in data analytics, sustainability metrics, and project coordination. All majors are welcome, especially students pursuing data science, environmental science, business analytics, or computer science. In this role, this student leader will gain meaningful experience in data collection, analysis and reporting, while developing essential skills aligned with the NACE Career Readiness Competencies.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Collect, clean, and analyze sustainability-related data (e.g., energy use, waste diversion, transportation, purchasing).

  • Assist in preparing data for AASHE STARS, climate reporting, and other sustainability certifications or assessments.

  • Build and maintain interactive dashboards or reports using tools like Power BI, Excel, or Python scripts.

  • Conduct audits and ensure data accuracy across multiple sources and departments.

  • Identify data gaps and recommend improvements for data collection processes.

  • Communicate analytical findings through visualizations and written reports for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to collect data and share insights.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Full-time undergraduate or graduate student at Southern New Hampshire University.
  • Strong quantitative, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Excel, including pivot tables, charts, and basic formulas.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in learning sustainability reporting frameworks and performance metrics.
  • It is expected that all individuals will attend regular staff meetings as part of their assigned hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Beginner-level experience with Python for data analysis (e.g., pandas, matplotlib).
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization tools.
  • Exposure to sustainability metrics, energy systems, or environmental performance indicators.
  • Previous experience in research, reporting, or data-focused roles.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
