We are seeking a PhD student to analyze proteomics and other omics data to study the molecular effects of medication. The doctoral student will analyze data generated by advanced methods of human blood samples that originate from clinical trials and will contribute to the development of methods that broaden the scientific conclusions that can be drawn from such analysis by integration with public datasets. This role will involve development and application of bioinformatics pipelines for data analysis, integration of multiple layers of data, and developing interfaces for data interpretation and visualization.

ROLE SUMMARY

The PhD student will be part of The SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), which aims to train the next-generation of data-driven life scientists and create globally leading computational and data science capabilities in Sweden.

The position is an Industrial PhD Project in Data-driven Life Science focusing on data-driven precision medicine and diagnostics.

The DDLS program is funded with a total of 3.1 billion SEK (about 290 MUSD) over 12 years from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg (KAW) Foundation. For more information, please see https://www.scilifelab.se/data-driven/ddls-research-school/.

This work will be supervised by Prof. Jochen Schwenk at KTH and members from Pfizer’s Biomarker Statistics group. The student will interact with an interdisciplinary team of research engineers, PhD students, postdocs, and researchers and work at Science for Life Laboratory, a national center for molecular biosciences with a focus on health and environmental research.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:

  • Passed a degree at an advanced level,
  • Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced level, or acquired (in or outside Sweden) equivalent knowledge.
  • Requirements for English equivalent to English B/6
  • Experience with computational tools for data analysis, visualization, and software such as R or Python.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

To succeed as a doctoral student at KTH, the candidate will need to be goal-oriented and persistent in their work. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed based on their ability to:

  • Independently pursue their research
  • Collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Demonstrate a responsible and professional approach in their work
  • Analysis and engage with complex scientific problems
  • Communicate clearly in English (oral and written).
  • Apply experience with proteomics data from the analysis of human (blood) samples
  • Documented experience in working with high-dimensional biological data
  • Knowledge in statistics and mathematics
